hey. are your IB scores received? How do you get transfer credits? Since all my Highers are all 5s? I really dun get how it works. Does it mean that we are all in U1 right now?

Well, as for me, it says on my Minerva webpage (when trying to register for the courses) that my status is 'year 1 student'. So I guess yes, we are in U1.

Hey guys. I was an IB-er and am now done my first year at McGill. You get U1 status, so make sure you do all the U1 stuff during orientation and throughout the year. It's pretty sweet, in my opinion, because it saves you from doing a whole bunch of stupid electives that you want to do. They're not all easy A's. However, you take a lot of different classes from the other "first years" so it's a little harder to meet people your age. It's also harder for science students I guess to skip that first year. If you're in management or arts you'll be fine.

Just a question: Are you sure that EVERY IB student gets a U1 status? (considering their results are good) Coz I'm kinda counting on it and would really hate to find out that I have to do 4 years just for a BA.

bittersweet, jess was in IB and she wasn't U1 right? so i donno, i guess not every IB student gets U1 status. ya if ur in science, try to not get the credits, especially if u wanna go to med school. jumping into all 2nd year science classes straight from high school is suicide. taking 1 second year class is easily managed, 2 as well, but more than that, best of luck! one of my friends got completely screwed over cause she IBed into all 2nd year classes first semester and now it's really hard for her to get her GPA back up

maybe just if you have IB diploma (as opposed to certificate) that you get 2nd year status? just a guess...

I called them yesterday and what I was told was that if you get at least all 5s in your 3 higher levels (any subjects), you get the credits and U1 status.

i got 38 in 2005...altho i was predicted like over 40...

And how are you doing (academically) at McGill????

hmm..well i am not doing too badly..my GPA is well over 3.0..mostly As and Bs...

but the thing is i have virtually put in no effort in the first year...gonna work harder this comming year...i pretty much spend the first year having the time of my life in the dorm, playing video games, partying..etc...i vaguely recall pulling all nighters for the finals...i should have done a lot better for sure..

to be honest i worked a lot harder for the IB....altho i didnt do much for the exams (just for the predicted grades..which was all that mattered) totally slacked off in the end.
