I'd appreciate your opinions! Thanks much :)

So, of course, my question is, what are my chances of getting into a semi-selective school? I actually feel like I differ from a lot of the people on this forum in just the fact that I'm definitely not wanting to go to an ivy-league school or anything, and my chosen major would be Landscape Architecture, which is not a field which requires an extremely rigorous education; it's more of a creativity-based profession.

My grades were decent freshman year, I think I had a 3.6 (3.7 weighted) gpa or so.My grades were really good (4.0 gpa, 4.2 weighted) sophomore year, but so far this semester has been really hard for me; I still have to take my exams but I think I will end up with 3 A's, 2 B-'s and possibly one C+ or B-. Ive had some personal issues thus far, but I think I can do much better next semester. My cumulative gpa for my high school career so far is about 3.6; dragged down a lot because of this troublesome semester. I think it's like a 3.8 weighted or something. I have decent extracurriculars, and they are things I genuinely enjoy doing, versus only doing them to get credit for more extracurriculars.I'm in marching band, color guard, yearbook, and I have a really great job as a florist. I also play the piano. I plan on joining one or two more clubs next semester and possibly tutoring via the Ninth Dimension tutoring program, and will probably get into NHS next year. I am also going to volunteer this summer at a nursing home where my grandfather lives and take a few design/architecture classes at a nearby community college. The most selective schools I will apply to are probably UVa, Illinois Urbana-Champlain, and UW Madison. What are my chances of getting in to any given school, mainly the ones mentioned, even with an iffy start to my junior year? (p.s.- havent taken ACT's yet but I took a practice test and am aiming for a 28 on the real thing.)

I'm guessing Madeline, since you didn't mention where you live--and you still have the rest of this year to go, and you haven't taken your ACT yet. I'm rate your chances as follows: (I'm presuming you live in Illinois).

UVA--Slight Reach (OOS)
Univ of Illinois--Match
Univ of Wisconsin--Match

Also, you might want to consider UC Davis, which has a really good program in this major. It is, however, quite expensive for out-of-state students, and is probably a Match to Slight Reach for you.

Good luck.

Madeline, agree with Calcruzer. Also look at Iowa State. They have one of the top programs for your major. Others to consider would be Michigan State, UConn and N.C. State.

Thanks so much for your feedback, I will definitely look into those schools. I live in Wisconsin, for your information. Thanks again, any other feedback from anyone would be greatly appreciated!

And also, does anyone think I could get into NC state? I looked on the princeton review website, and it said that the average GPA is 4.11 (?!?!?) but the ACT average is only 24. The counselor-o-matic service told me that I could consider NC state a "safety".

Madeline, it appears that NC State uses a 5.0 scale for their admissions not a 4.0 scale. I looked up their common data set(university planning and analysis numbers) for recent year acceptances and thats what it said. If you type it in you will see all their numbers and how they break it down. It will give you a very good idea on what they look for with their admissions. I think your gpa looks fine for NC State. I know of someone who got in with a 3.5. Also, take the SAT along with the ACT. Your score may end up higher on one test than the other. A few others to also check out would be Clemson, Va Tech and KState.

thanks thanks thanks!!!!

With my credentials what are my chances at UGa, Purdue, and Clemson?
Thanks

bumpbumpbump

You're a definite for Purdue, it's not too hard to get into at all. And it's also a really good school.

Good luck!

thanks! does anyone have an idea about university of georgia and clemson? im really looking into those two.

edit: cumulative gpa is like 3.63 unweighted, at least for the last semester it was, but it may drop to a 3.5ish range; 3.94 weighted. Im ending up with 2 C's for the final year, one is chemistry, which is honestly just really hard for me, (I DO go in for help and everything) and one for Algebra 2, which I can honestly say is because of the teacher... (hes under investigation etc, he actually does NOT teach, and I'm not exaggerating when I say this...I normally am not one to blame a bad grade on a teacher but this is one exception). AP US I have a B/B- in, which I'm comfortable with; its a tough class, and I've even already fulfilled my requirement for US History (Honors) and got an A, so this AP class wasnt even neccessary but I wanted to challenge myself. My school is a highly selective public high school but I'm still managing to stay in the top 25%, at least for the last quarter. My extracurriculars are the same; i got into NHS and am planning to do extensive volunteer work this summer in addition to many more hours at my job. I also am fairly certain my senior grades can bring up my gpa; I'm taking several rigorous AP and honors courses and not "slacking off" for my last year at all. I also know my essays are going to be absolutely stellar; writing is my passion and a talent of mine.

What are my chances at the colleges above? Thanks!

bump bump

????????????

Clemson's pretty good. You'll have to bump yourself a little to get into that one, but you definitely won't have to work yourself to death for it. I haven't researched Georgia yet, sorry.
