So the December SAT and ACT are probably my last chances to improve on my test scores before I submit them to colleges. I'm applying to HYPS, a few schools in the top 20, as well as my local flagship state university.

I was wondering, would you recommend that I retake the SAT or ACT and, if yes, which one? The thing is, I don't feel like I've "hit my potential" on the SAT, although I've scored a 2110 and 2130 consecutively. My superscore comes out as a 2180 (770 M, 710 CR, 700 W). I'm disappointed with the CR and W because I was hoping to score at least a 740 on each section. Eh, I seem to be one of those rare cases where my PSAT score (223) was a lot higher than my SAT score.

My SAT II results haven't been that bad, I guess. I have an 800 on the Math II, a 740 in Biology, and a 720 in U.S History.

Two months ago, I also tried the ACT. I scored a 33 (34 E, 34 M, 32 R, 30 S) but the science section killed me because I ran out of time. At home, I've scored ranging from a 34-36 on multiple timed tests. Would you recommend that I retake this instead? I have this unsettling feeling though that admission officers will look down upon my ACT score because of my weak SAT score and the fact that I'm from the East coast, where a lot of kids don't even take it.

So, what it boils down to is that my test scores are a significant weakness to my application. I have tried as best I can to improve on everything else, and I feel qualified in most other aspects. I worked really hard on my essay, and I have received generally excellent feedback. My teacher recs are pretty strong and my class rank is okay too. Despite all of this, however, I sometimes get the feeling that I will eventually be rejected because of my scores, and I would feel really bad about that if I realized later that I could have done something about them. What do you think? Is it worth taking either test over again? Thank you...
