Help

I've been debating whether or not to retake my SATs for a few months now and it is really stressing me out (I never thought I would be that person...) Basically, i got a 2240 but my writing score was only 690 because I completely bombed the essay. I know I can try to show my writing strength in admission essays and by saying I've written for the Tucson Citizen newspaper or whatever but I really really really just need advice... especially from people who been there done that. I'm afraid that my SAT score might exclude me from the top schools.
Here are some stats on me:
I'm taking 3 SAT IIs + 3 AP exams this May
I've taken 3 AP exams (Calc AB,BC and Euro)- gotten 5s
I'll be VP for NHS next year and I do 2 other main volunteer things- VP on a Youth Board, Board of directors Representative
PSAT -226
Taken 400 level courses at U of A for 2 semesters (A first semester, not sure about this semester yet)
USABO semifinalist...( but definently not finalist!)

I've been looking on this website a lot lately and I have to say some things depress me :) like when people talk about their not so fantastic stats...

So just some help because I don't really have anyone else to ask...
Thanks

Colleges are more interested in your CR/Math than your writing score.

Probaly shouldn’t retake it. Idk, I got 2240 and got into Stanford/Ivies. Of course, having extracurriculars like doing research for a really long time or something will balance it out, so don’t sweat it.

Thats what im worried about-i dont have any really great extracurriculars… and ive already gotten 2 Bs last semester in French

does anyone else have advice?

A 690 isn’t “bombing the essay.”

If you have only taken it once, then I don’t think it will hurt you to try one more time.
Remember, it takes alot more than a high number to get into the top schools.

Take it again. I got perfect multiple choice but only an 8 on the essay which gave me a 680, I read all the tips (write two pages, use three examples etc.) retook, got a 10 on the essay and perfect multiple choice again and ended up with an 800. You have a great shot at a 2300+ superscored, go for it.

ummm actually i think getting a 6 on the essay counts as “bombing it”
thanks for all the advice- i just was concerned that i need the extra boost from the SATs to balance out other stuff… even tho i realllllllly dont want to retake :)
