does anyone have any ideas on how i can improve my college resume, i would be a transfer student and need advice for what types of community service to take and how much also what type of church activities, considering i want to go to a christian university. or just anything that will make me look better a a candidate?

You should have some sort of central brand that applies to your long-term career/academic goal, with a bit of diversifying interests on the side.

Don’t include a list of random volunteer work just for the heck of it. Show real passion and leadership through long-term involvement or new endeavours.

Try to refrain from saying things like
- Processed all the cash reimbursements from the club fund
- Built schools in ____ country for the poor
- Started a club and helped organize various events

Those are all “duty statements” that one might fund in a job description. Aim for “achievement verbs” and measurable results instead
- Reduced reimbursement turnover time by 50% through implementation of new technological strategies, earning the praise of fellow club executives
- Created long-term educational benefits for 500+ students from low-income family by moving overseas in the summer, tutoring children in english and math, and building a x ft. school
- Led a team of 25 people to launch the first major cultural club on campus

A lot of it it’s up to your personal preferences. This is just what I found to be effective based on experience.

goddessxx, thats a great post its a very smart thing that many people(including myself) have never thought about! :)

thank you that helps

If you’re applying as a sophomore transfer, you should focus mostly on grades and getting recommendations. Likewise, if you didn’t have solid ECs in high school, it’s unlikely that some token ECs are going to seriously tip the scales one way or the other. If you’re applying as a junior transfer, your ECs will be of very little importance.

I am gonna be transferring in as a junior. So i should be most concerned about my gpa and reccomendations? do my extra curriculars and community service as well as religious afiliation not matter much at well when your a transfer?

Again, it depends where you want to transfer. Are you looking at very religious schools (e.g., Bob Jones University) or something more mainstream like Notre Dame. Give us some schools.

i really want to get into pepperdine. i would also apply to UC schools and USD(san diego) and for my safety school ASU. But pepperdine is what i am striving for. I have a good GPA 3.8 and have a reccomendation from the dean of my school and counselor also i can get one from a professor. but i really need to know what kind of community service i need or if its neccesary or just how to improve my resume for this school? I can also have a few religous afiliations on there and a letter of rec from my Stake president of my church. i hope this helps what else do i need? thanks alot!
