I am running a math club as president, the club is just recently started, I was a co-founder and a vice-president. However, last week, we realized that the previous president (a senior) who started the club just to put it on college application, and he quit going to the club a few weeks after submitting college app. After that, I was promoted to be president to handle the club. So far, I feel like the meetings are kind of boring and we don’t currently have a lot of ideas to do fundraisers. We are currently only doing the AMC 10 and 12, and are lacking of members. Do you have any recommendation regarding recruiting, fundraising, or making the meetings more interesting for me? I really don’t want the club to die young. Thank you
How about talks on interesting math topics?
@yucca10 It sounds like a great idea, should I talk about the foundation of imaginary numbers?
Whatever sounds interesting to you, but it also depends on the level of students attending. You don’t want anything that people either won’t understand or already know. This page has many ideas:

There’s a lot of math competitions like the AMC that are held, so if the issue is that there’s only one competition to look forward to for the entire year, you could probably find more competitions to participate in. And for fundraisers, at least in our school, the most successful ones almost always sell food.
Talk to that senior and ask what their vision was.
Talk to your favorite math teacher and ask what they think.
Clearly you should do something with Pi Day (3/14) like sell pie slices.
Can you tutor others in math? (also good for community service for NHS)
Also google “High school math club activities” for many good ideas
For some material - google “Western PA ARML”. See the Archive section of the first hit, and explore some of the other older links - lots of good material to re-use.
What about some sort of math riddles / puzzles? We do those in Math Honor Society and a lot of people think they’re lame lmao but I’d rather do that than listen to a lecture on some math topic. And I actually enjoy math lol
For math topics though, I always think it’s really interesting when math is used in conjunction of science. Perhaps you can do a talk on some math topic and how it relates to space or something
Thank you everyone for helping me, I appreciate it!
@bopper Thank you for your advice, but honestly, I do not trust that senior to help me anymore since I know that he started this club solely to put on college apps. Before the club was started, he told everyone that the club’s mission is to organize the AMC and fundraise for charities that promote math education, but he did not give many details about how to actually do it. I’m planning to make a bake sale on Pi day and ask Walmart for donations for it. Do you think that would be a good idea?
Have club members make the Pies.
I am not sure how getting funding from Walmart works…you only have 10 days.
But what would the funds from the fundraiser be used for?
I suggest “The Algebra Project” https://algebra.org/wp/
@bopper I will use the funds to organize the AMC 10 and 12 and my high school, AMC 8 at a local middle school, and potentially donate to non-profit organizations that promote maths education. The project you suggest seems great, I will definitely research more about it. Thank you for your help!
