I'm going to be giving my speech to run for Key Club tomorrow..
The speech needs to answer the following questions:
1. Why are you interested in running?
2. What are your qualifications?
3. What are your goals for next year?
4. Why should the club vote for you?
Disadvantages? The girl I'm running against is kind of popular, plus I'm unattractive. I also don't have much leadership experience to speak of for qualifications, nor do I have many connections...

To be honest, part of the reason why I'm running is because I do need leadership positions. But I also want to make a difference as part of Key Club, and becoming vice president can provide more opportunities to make a stronger impact. That doesn't seem like a strong enough reason, though. Most of the members in my Key Club are members primarily for expediency, so it doesn't seem like that would really appeal to them.

I have the typical grades of a CCer (unweighted 3.9 GPA, lots of AP classes, etc)...I'm fairly responsible and organized...as said before, not really much leadership experience. I've run for a lot of other positions before, but I've always lost to more popular/more attractive or simply more qualified people.

“But I also want to make a difference as part of Key Club, and becoming vice president can provide more opportunities to make a stronger impact.”

What do you want to do specifically? You could talk about this for #3.

I’d like to improve Key Club’s involvement in the school itself, and hopefully make Key Club more recognized. Our club doesn’t exactly have a lot of respect in our school, and most people see it more or less as an Asian clique rather than a service club.
If more people respected the club, we’d undoubtedly have more members, especially, more dedicated ones.
Problem is, I don’t really know how I would accomplish that.

–>Introduce yourself/name, try to make it catchy / cute / humorous --energetically, instead of a blunt I am ____ and I’m running for Vice President.

–>Why you joined Key Club, what you like about it
–>Then just answer away at those questions

–>Include jokes–cultural Asian ones (they honestly work in an Asian club), not obscure ones that only the AP students get–“KEYnesian economics you know for treasurer”

–>You should come up with ideas how you’ll increase member involvement etc

***Just as a side note, you’ve won my vote if you prove that you’ll take the initiative to go beyond your assigned responsibilities / what the president tells you to do / Key Club is your number 1 priority. Meaning, use your “power” to its fullest impact on the club–and prove that you’ll employ effective communication with the members. I want to see more than just a look good on the outside officer.
(I’ve been through officers that said it was their number 1 in their speech and it is certainly not.)

^I think I can muster up enough sincerity to prove that I really do care about the club…but I’m not really good at humor.
Usually when I make jokes, especially in a speech, they’re awkward, to say the least.

Don’t make jokes if they sound awkward. Talk to a few members you know and ask them what they want to improve most about the club. Make a point of addressing these issues in the speech. Try going bold, and addressing a big issue in your school where the club could have a real impact. Talk about how much you love the club and want to make it better.

Alright, so I’ve written a speech.
Could you review it and tell me if there’s anything I should adjust?
I tried to use more casual language, as that seems to be the general format.

I’m proud to say I’m a part of Key Club. It’s not only because of all the great, new people I get to meet, but because I know that with everything we do to service our community, we are benefiting the world. We all want to change the world for the better. Some don’t take that first step, but just by being in Key Club we all have taken that step, by becoming members of one of the oldest and largest service organizations in the world. But to me, being a member isn’t enough. Not only do I want to benefit the community, I want to benefit our club. I want to take on an officer position because I believe I could help ----- Key Club take the next step to a better year for 2013-2014. Some goals I have in mind include keeping the club on top of things. That means: no procrastinating. By being on top of things it’ll allow room for improvement or even new ideas. And of course as a vice president I’d assist the president and all of the other officers to the best of my ability. I’d be that shoulder to lean on. If you need something done? You can count on me. I’m the type of person you can rely on. Another goal in mind is to successfully establish and strengthen our committees. Last year, we didn’t have enough applicants. As part of my responsibilities as vice president, I’d encourage more members to become more involved in Key Club and apply as committee chairs. I’d support the committee chairs and provide them with ideas and ensure the job is getting done. If need be I’d be more than willing to help the various committees with any problems they may be having I’d help Party Committee develop games for our members to make meetings more fun, and I’d help Service Events with planning. Now, these are only some goals I’d like to work on. But I don’t want to only help the officers, I want to help the members. Help the members find their passion in Key Club. Even though one of our main goals is to gain more members, keeping them involved as dedicated members is more important. I believe connection is KEY. Connecting with members will ensure not only more people at service events but a stronger club. Connecting to other schools, divisions, and regions is huge. But it all starts here—with my connection to all of you in this room. And I think it all begins with one simple word, “Hello.” So…Hello my name is ------------, and I’m running for ----- Key Club’s vice president.

First introduce yourself, and tell them what position you running for.
Then tell them how many years you have been in key club, and what do you love about key club
Next, you should tell them why you are qualified for this position. NOTE: you can talk about your duties for this job
Then, talk about your accomplishments over the years in key club for example how many hours/awards you earned
Last but not least, you should wrap it up with a quick talk about about why anybody should vote for you. You can talk about your skills and how can you make a difference next year holding this position
Make sure to always look out for questions from the advisor and the previous officer holding the same job you are running for.
I hope this helped, btw im running for vice president tomorrow
