Neither idiotic nor laughable and not inherently laudable either.
I’m not an expert at this kind of thing, but I talk to people who are. This move is part of a long-term campaign to pressure folks like governments and investors and it is getting attention. While short-run numbers show people disapprove of the action, they are getting coverage. it may well be effective as part of a longer-term campaign.
More extreme actions may open up the ground for another more moderate-sounding group to enter the conversation.
