IDOC and social security number

Hi everyone,

I will be submitting the IDOC documents by mail. On their website, they say that you must have the social security number on the top right of each document. My dad wants to white it out on his income tax returns and leave the last four digits to prevent identity theft. However, he is willing to put the full number on the W2. I asked him why, he said because to put it on each document just makes it too easy for identity theft to happen.

Will my documents be processed? My dad said if I must put down the SS numbers, he’s not sure if he wants to do this.

HELP!! What can I do? I did email the IDOC, I’m waiting for a response.

You emailed it?
I thought there was supposed to be a specific address that you were supposed to snail mail it. That’s why they repeatedly stated on each form that they needed your full ss# on the top right corner and in order.

We mailed our IDOC packages, and did NOT write SS numbers on each page, although they do appear repeatedly on various pages of the tax forms and on the W2s.

All was accepted and processed with no issues.

@“aunt bea” no, I emailed them to ask if it’s ok.

Update: I just called and they said it’s not ok.

Put the package in the snail mail. Manila envelope.

@whataprocess, that’s good that they accepted it with no issues, but I think they want it done that way to make it convenient for the receiving schools. You do not want to lose valuable information and have it hold up your FA.

Do they really need all tax documents to have complete social security numbers on it?

Can’t they match the name/address/last 4 digits of soc sec # to your FAFSA/CSS profile?

I would also be hesitant to send my tax return with all family member’s full soc sec # in the mail or via unsecured fax/email.

update: my dad called and apparently it’s ok to have the last four digits. Thank you for all the help, everyone!
