Hello, I am currently assembling my IDOC packet and noticed that my Noncustodial Parent was listed on my cover sheet with a place for his SSN and checklist for his financial documents. I have no contact with this parent and he lives in a foreign country; I have no access to his financial records. I submitted the Noncustodial Parent Profile Waiver with my CSS Financial Aid Profile. I cannot find any information about what I should do; do I need to include the waiver again with my IDOC? Do I leave his SSN line blank and simply submit nothing for him?

In addition, I noticed that one of the schools I'm applying to has an institution specific document (Brown U) but it was not listed under my required documents nor was that school listed under the list of schools that need my IDOC information so I am unsure if I need to submit that with my IDOC.

Thank you!

(1) What do you mean when you say you submitted the “noncustodial parent profile waiver” with your CSS Profile? The waiver is not automatic - each college has specific requirements for student and/or parent statements as well as other supporting documentation. You need to send a waiver request to each college’s financial aid office (by email, preferably), and then submit whatever documentation they ask for.

(2) Since you don’t have any financial info for your noncustodial parent, you submit the IDOC without it.

(3) If Brown is not listed as an IDOC school, then you wouldn’t send the Brown-specific form to IDOC. You’d send it to Brown’s financial aid office directly. What form is this?

I simply meant that I sent the waivers at the same time I submitted my CSS profile and sent the necessary documents to each school. Some colleges required the noncustodial waiver while others did not but none of the schools followed up with requests for additional documents.

Thank you! That’s what I thought but I didn’t know if I needed to send any additional statements that I had no contact with my noncustodial parent.

Brown is an IDOC school and, on its website, discusses a financial aid application form that needs to be sent through the college board with the IDOC, but this form was not listed under my required documents in my IDOC profile and I didn’t know if it was only required for certain students with special circumstances.

Oh, and the Brown for is called the “2014-2015” Financial Aid Continuing Student Application

Well, that’s for continuing students (students already enrolled at Brown) - not prospective students, so it doesn’t apply to you.
