I'm just a high school student and have no job or anything that should require me to file taxes. But the collegeboard IDOC says I'm required to submit a signed copy of tax returns, W-2 Forms, and 1099 Forms. I don't even know what those are. Am I actually supposed to do anything for those, or just have my parents submit theirs and ignore my own?

Did you follow the directions at the IDOC site and print out all the instructions? You may need to fill out and send a Non-filer statement, but check the instructions. Otherwise, you will just be sending all of the required tax documents from your parents’ taxes. Will your parents be able to help you with this? My D is very smart, but still a teen like you, and I know this would be beyond her, or she would find it very difficult, just because she isn’t familiar with all the terminology, etc. If your parents can’t help, maybe another adult can? You don’t want to make mistakes that could affect your aid!
(I know the email “speaks” to the student, but in reality, it’s a bit above a student who has never filed taxes, etc, to understand all the lingo, forms required, schedules for taxes, etc!)
