If college admission boards were made up of random online high school students....

OK, this is exceedingly pointless...but I'll try it anyway

SAT-700 verbal-660 math-590 writing
GPA-Always have taken the hardest classes in my school, the past few quarters Ive gotten
3-4 As
3-4 Bs
1 C
Grades fluctuate alot I have gotten an A in all classes but one at some point this year...got all As freshman year (although I doubt that is a plus)

-Went to JSA Summer School @ Yale (government stuff), learned a **** load of stuff, got an A- and a B+

Took the AP Government test last month without taking a class for it...dunno what I got, but I think I did well

ExtraCurricuar Stuffs

-Started a JSA Chapter at my school my sophmore year (JSA.org if you dont know what that is), president since it started
-Was on JSA Regional Cabinet this year, and will be in a higher post next year (helped run events and stuff)
-AcaDec Team Member, won 4th place Econ medal (only person on the team remotely good at it)
-Founding member of Historic Somerville (umbrella organization for historic stuff-mostly grown ups)
-Volenteered for the Historic Comission-Living History sort of stuff
-Volenteered, and was intern for the Kerry Campaign in Boston August 03-November 04, put in ALOT of hours there
-Founded Students Against Mitt Romney, network of high school students from across the state who are (duh) against Mitt Romney-Boston Globe did an article about us
-Greater Boston Student Advisory Council to the Deparment of Ed-2004/2005
-State Student Advisory Council to the Deparment of Ed-2005/2006
-Helped out kids at my old elementary school make a video about the school for publicity to parents. Put in about 20 hours
-Member of Students Council since freshman year, have about 50/50 chance of being president next year
-Orchestra since 4th grade
-NHS

perhaps some random other stuff...I dunno

Here are some schools Im lookin' at (in order of hard-to-get-into-ness)
UPenn
Columbia
Georgetown
Tufts (which is in my hometown-giving me a bonus)
GW
Lafayette
Franklin and Marshall
American
Hood

Any other suggestions for decent sized good poli sci schools would be appreciated, btw

At first I thought of Georgetown as a reach, but my SAT scores are right in the middle of their range. Is it more reachable then previously calculated?

I think I want to go to school in DC though. Meh. What do ya think?

I don't get it....this isn't accurate at all as an "average" high school student......

First of all, an average student doesn't take an all rigorous courseload, isn't in NHS, and doesn't go to Yale in the summer...

and they probably wouldn't start a JSA chapter either...

The writing score is a bit low for Georgetown. Georgetown is a reach for you, as it was for me. (I had the exact same SAT I scores, minus the SAT I Writing... 700 V, 660 M, 780 WR).

But, on the plus side for you, Georgetown will throw out the new writing score from the new SAT I.

Your extracurriculars are interesting, so to say, but you have to remember, the one thing that is so daunting about Georgetown admissions is that two digit number -- 21%. That's the number of students that are accepted each year, with little to no fluctuation. (I think it was 21.9% this year, I'm not too certain).

The school that you apply to at Georgetown will also impact your admissions.

As far as GW, once again, I had the exact same scores and was admitted as a Presidential Scholar (half-tuition) to GW. I've also pulled similar grades like you have (all As, 1 C for the past.. four bloody semesters, including senior year), so not to worry about the grades.

You should consider American your DC safety.

some stuff I forgot...

French Honor Society

History Day Freshman year-honerable mention

Science Fair Freshman, Sophmore and Junior years-every year got honerable mention at school level, and participated in Regional Science Fair, sophmore year I got a $20 award from science dept.

bump

Hey, I'm from Boston, too, and I was under the impression that being from Boston was more a disdvantage than anything else. I'd very happy to be proven wrong though

I have heard that Somerville High students get a bit of an advantage because a good bit of Tufts is in Somerville. Somerville Students can also take Tufts classes for free (I think) while in HS. Similar to the relationship between Cambridge and Harvard/MIT. Somerville residents can also audit Tufts classes for free. Tufts doesnt pay property taxes, and I suppose all of this would be a way of giving back to Somerville (and Medford I assume)

Being from the Boston Area might be a disadvantage because there are more students applying to college from around here. If you were from, say Alabama or Montana, there would be a lot fewer applacants from your part of your country. Colleges that want a geographically diverse freshman class would give such students an advantage.

I would guess that applying to Tufts from Somerville is better then from New Jersey, but worse then Nebraska.

You never ** did ** mention what school of Georgetown you were planning to apply to.

I would probobly apply to Georgetown college. Which schools are hardest/easiest to get into?

Statistically, the College is technically the hardest to get into, but because of the small size of the program, I would have to say SFS.

In order of difficulty (actual difficulty, not just percentages), I'd say:

SFS (hardest)
COL
MSB
NHS

Anyone else?
