If college doesn't "require" ACT with writing, do they even look at writing score?

If a college doesn’t require the writing section of the ACT, will they even see or consider the writing score if it is submitted with the ACT score? Or will the writing score not even be input into the system?

Assuming they do “see” the writing score, which is better, to report an ACT composite of 34 with a 36 in writing, or an ACT of 35 with no writing?

Depends on the college (for both questions).

For the second question, if the college super scores the ACT, reporting all scores is advantageous. Note also that some colleges that do not super score may want to see all scores anyway.
