If everything else besides my GPA is good, do I still have a chance?

CALS biological sciences. That was the best essay 1 wrote honestly haha

The ACT of 31 confirms the 3.4. What is your class rank (approximately, if the answer is that your school doesn’t rank). From what has been reported on the prep school thread, the average GPA there is a 4.0, and a class average of 89 is considered to be grade deflation. So where does that 3.4 place you, relative to your classmates?

I think that if you were an URM male, you might have a shot. Otherwise, I don’t think you’re going to get into any of these 4 your mentioned. Maybe Boston College.

I’m a hispanic female. i would say i rank around 50/120

I really think that the only one that you might have a shot at, off the waitlist maybe, is Boston College. Cornell and Penn are out of reach, and probably BU, also.

Regardless of how the stats might appear, BC is more difficult than BU - says a BU grad.

More difficult to get into, or more challenging academically once there? It’s clear that BU is trying to increase their applications - I get ads all over the internet fishing for applications screaming “merit scholarships for test-optional applicants!”, when from what I’ve heard, BU is kind of known for not being very generous on the merit scholarship side of things.

It is more difficult to be accepted to BC than BU. BU seems to be playing a light version of the Tulane application game to pump up stats.

Hello—i just got accepted to cornell! i guess a my GPA didn’t ruin my chances!!

That’s wonderful! But how did you find out? I thought that their regular decision date was April 6th this year. That’s what it says on their website, and on their twitter account. Could it be different for different schools at Cornell? Which college at Cornell? Also, for future applicants, can you please reveal if you had any “hooks” (recruited athlete, or child of big donor, or you are an underrepresented minority)?

I got an email today saying I would be admitted from the Diversity Outreach – I am a Hispanic female. I was accepted to CALS as a Biological sciences major. If you see the Cornell thread, people from a CAS and engineering were also emailed.

Congratulations again. You’re gonna love it there. Best of luck to you!

Please edit your original stats in the original post to include your underrepresented minority status, because it is relevant information for others assessing their odds of admission.
