If I could change one thing....

My junior year GPA.

and cheating a bit, but I regret not playing a sport. Not necessarily for college apps, but just in general.

I regret my my GPA.

I was fooling around far too much in 9th and 10th grade.

Should have written better essays and spent more times crafting my apps.

Definitely GPA

GPA!

I wish I worked harder in high school and had a GPA over 3.5.

my sat score to a 2200

I wish I had more time and didn’t procrastinate so much.

ACT score

SAT scores and one other dedicated EC would have been nice.

I wish I had sent in a different supplemental essay to one school. I had it written, but I was worried it overlapped too much with another essay I had written for the school, an area that I wasn’t necessarily trying to highlight. In hindsight, it didn’t overlap too much, and even if it had, I should have switched out the other essay. I’ve gotta move past this one, though, and when I do get the eventual rejection, not blame it on this regret; I would have gotten rejected regardless!

I also wish that I had started learning a living language as a freshman and had done a year or semester abroad.

Somebody please chance me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1853375-is-this-profile-good-for-the-top-30-schools-in-usa.html#latest

I wish I made a difference in my community or did something worth remembering, and that I took AP Psych this year.

GPA… i wish i had tried more in school… as im applying and getting deferred to colleges, it isnt the best feeling in the world

If I could change one thing, I would definitely have applied to more CSU’s (im a California resident). They are cheap and they provide a good education. I really hope I end up in that system but I only applied to Cal Poly and my chances are slim. Definitely would have applied to San Diego, San Jose, and Long beach, the college isn’t all about the name and I wish I realized that sooner.

I am a junior in high school now. What should I be doing to avoid these regrets?

@DreamtoInfinity Study, plan, focus, have fun, and succeed.

Don’t let where you go to school define you. Let your success define the school, the person you want to be. Take advantage of everything you can in school. Choose a school that fit’s you…people, classes, activities, location, “feel”, your happiness goes a long way in determining your future. Work hard but don’t forget to enjoy your time being young. I know plenty of Ivy grads who did nothing with their degrees and plenty of state school and community college grads who have gone on to be incredibly successful. You’ll end up at the school you are supposed to be at. Make the most of what you have and work hard for those things you want and you won’t ever regret a thing. Just remember if you always do your best you won’t have time to worry about failure. Besides failure is an event NOT a person!

I’m a junior in high school. I haven’t completed high school yet, but I still have some regrets: not taking AP World/US/Env. Sci, not getting a high enough GPA, and not joining NHS when I had the chance.

participate more in extracurriculars, take challenging classes that interest me, and focus less on numbers but more on personal growth. I don’t feel like I learned much throughout my high school experience.
