If I decide not to take AP tests that I said I was going to take, do I have to inform colleges?

So basically, at the beginning of the year, I was super ambitious and thought I was going to take 6-7 AP tests come spring. However, now, I think I may only be taking 3-4. If I decide not to take a few AP tests, but I already reported them as “planned” on the UC App and Common App, do I have to contact the schools to inform them of the change? Thanks!

?

anyone?

I said I was going to take 6 AP tests my senior year, didn’t take a single one. I’m now a third-year at UC Berkeley and they haven’t complained.

@AmaranthineD Thank you so much! Such a relief.

deciding not to take an AP test is your decision. dropping an AP class is another matter.
I’d only take the AP tests for the classes that you are doing really well in.

AP exams tend to be after acceptance decisions come out. I would wait to see where you are likely to attend, and then contact those Admissions Offices for their specific advice. You might need to give them a reason (cost, taking the course again at that institution, etc.). Asking is the only way to be sure and eliminate all anxiety. It’s a fairly common thing too.

ALL information regarding how colleges use AP scores is available online on each colleges website. Calling any college regarding information that is readily available online is a waste of time.

@AmaranthineD did you notify the school at all about you not taking the tests you said you would, or did they ask you why you didnt send in scores for them? I have the same question as op.

I don’t remember whether or not I notified the schools, probably not. They did not ask.
