If I don't submit my finaid forms...

I haven't submitted my finaid forms (PROFILE, FAFSA, tax return forms) due to some personal family issues. But I indicated on my Common Applications that I would be applying for financial aid. Does the fact that I didn't finish my financial aid stuff effect my admission? If I can't get these issues resolved by the end of this month, I'm taking next year off, so I'm thinking of not finishing up my FA unless it harms my chance of admission.. Any advice for me, please?

If you need financial aid then you have to file it. There is no getting around it. I believe you can update the information later.

I’m not sure I undertand what you’re saying, but if you indicated you need aid on your application and they are inclined to accept you, how do they work up an aid offer for you if they don’t have your financial aid application form(s)?

I have a feeling it might leave your admissions application dangling somehow. It depends on what their internal procedures are… but I would submit estimated forms the best you can, but definitely get them in now and correct them later.

When you say you’ll take a year off if the family issues are not resolved, are you thinking you’ll defer actually beginning college? If that’s the case, and the college lets you defer enrolling for a year, then you’ll have to re-apply for financial aid anyway… so I’m not sure where that leaves you.

I know people don’t like this advice, but truly the only way you’ll have a dependable answer to your question is to call the college(s) and ask!
