If I failed my freshmen year of high school could I still get into a good college

I’m really worried that since I failed my first year of highschool I won’t be able to get into a good college. My gpa is pretty low since I failed my freshmen year. What is some ideas to help me or advice . Thank you

Continue to improve. Find out what you did wrong (didn’t prepare for tests, didn’t know how to study, etc). Ask your guidance counselor if you can retake those classes your failed. You have a couple of more years to recover. All is not lost.

Be sure you are addressing whatever issues caused you to fail as a freshman. Colleges are going to see your freshman year grades and will want to see evidence that you worked hard to improve. A higher GPA each year will go a long way to showing them that you are ready for the rigors of college. They like upwards trends.

You will probably not be able to get into super selective schools, but you can certainly go to college and continue to do well. College is what you make of it, and you don’t have to go to the most selective schools in order to have a successful career and do well in life. You can go to community college too and transfer into a more rigorous college. Many people, including myself, have chosen that route.

Meanwhile, you need to address the classes you failed. Please make an appointment with your guidance counselor right away and come up with a plan to make up classes. You might have to attend summer school, or take courses at a local community college. There are plenty of options for you, as long as you commit yourself to seeing them through.

How do you define “fail”? Are you required to repeat the year, or attend summer school to make up a failed class?

As others said, figure out what happened and work to fix it. Upward trends can happen. Will you be able to get into Harvard? Probably not, along with almost all other students, including those with perfect GPAs. And honestly, if you are not able to do well academically in high school, why would college be any different? There are other paths forward in life if academics aren’t your strength.

The primary thing that you need to do is to correct whatever issue caused you to fail your freshman year. You also need to get yourself prepared to do much better during subsequent years of high school.

If you can get things turned around and start getting good grades from now on, then there will be colleges and universities that you can get accepted to which will be a good fit for you.
