I have a question, lets says I get a D in one of my classes at the end of the semester, would I still get the units of the class? What if I want to repeat the class would the units of the class I didn't pass still stay or would it not since I'm repeating it?

It might depend on your school/major. At most I believe D is considered barely passing (so you get credit) but some schools will require a grade of C or better, especially if the course it related to your major.

It depends on your school and if the course is a major, general ed, or elective.

the course is in my major

At a lot of schools, major courses require a C or higher to be counted towards one’s degree.

yes, so the units won’t count then?

That depends. Is a D considered passing at your school? If so, then yes, you would receive the credits - but you’ll need to retake it if it is a required course for your major.

yes, ok so if I retake it I would still have the units right, and get more units since i’m retaking it?

The credits/units would probably still count towards graduation, but not towards your major. So yes, technically you would be getting more credits - you might be able to use them towards an undistributed/free elective requirement.

The policy will vary from school to school. If this is a prerequisite class for another class, then you likely need a C to move on.

You’ll still get the credits in the sense that you will have a grade of D weighted at x number of credits factored into your GPA. It may or may not count as credit towards graduation. Most likely not.

You should check with your school’s policy and or your major adviser. No one here can tell you for sure, they can only speculate

The typical way it goes is that you will get credit for it but if it’s a class required for your major there is probably a minimum grade required for it to count (usually either a C or a C-, check with your department). If it’s just some random class you’re taking just for credits though, you’ll get the credits. This is how I believe it works at most schools, check with your school policies to see if it’s any different.

Yes, it depends on your school and major (and sometimes which course in the major’s requirements).

Talk to your adviser and see if it would be better to withdraw than to get a D (if it is still possible)…many majors won’t let you get a D in your major and also it would drag your GPA down.
