I am interested in studying history and photography in college. I applied to CAS because I didn't think my photography was good enough or was I comfortable enough with my photography portfolio enough to apply directly to tisch.

Can I double major if it would be in two different colleges--CAS and Tisch?
Can I even switch into Tisch later yet still study history in CAS?
Would I have to wait until my sophomore or junior year to switch into Tisch?

sorry for the bombardment of questions, but I would greatly appreciate help.
It would suck to go to NYU if I knew it would be difficult to study both history and photography :(

I think to major in photography, you’d have to submit a portfolio and maybe even transfer to Tisch. You can be in CAS and take some photography through open arts. [Open Arts: Tisch School of the Arts at NYU](<a href=“Open Arts”>Open Arts)

You can transfer to any program in NYU, the only thing is that you’ll need to do an application just as if you applied as a freshman. For photography, you’ll need a portfolio, a transfer essay, and perhaps recommendations (only know about Film & TV from a friend doing it, no experience with photography).

You can double major in CAS if you are a Tisch student but you cannot double major in Tisch if you are a CAS student. If you want to have a major in a Tisch department, you would need to apply for an internal transfer at the end of your freshman year. How this would affect your graduation date is something you would need to investigate. I’m not sure if the Photography curriculum and grad requirements can be fit into three years of study or not.

Tisch majors are generally quite credit heavy. (E.g. require more credits than most CAS majors). This means that if you want a Tisch major this should be your PRIMARY major (e.g. you should apply to Tisch for photography then double major when you get here). Photography here is 108 credits. 128 credits is the requirement to graduate. So unless you got in as a freshmen, it would be impossible (unless you stacked on summer courses and were willing and able to pay the $15k-$20k/per summer) to graduate with a double major. Sorry to disappoint.

No, it’s an actual program so there’s no minoring in it. You can take photography classes if you’re in CAS, but you’re not going to be earning a degree for it.
