I have a 3.9 GPA and a lot of great EC’s. I know Vanderbilt stresses that they are definitely looking for well-rounded people but my test score is low. I’m just really worried. Please help
Saying you have a 2040 is not that helpful what did you have in the subsections? However, a 2040 is on the lower side for Vandy but people still get in. Any hooks?
@Livingteen1209 680 CR, 660 Math, 700 writing. My orchestra conductor has major connections at the Blair school and I want to either double major or minor in music but I did apply to A&S as my main school
I think you have a fair shot. Are you’re also applying ed1
@Livingteen1209 Yes, I applied ED1. I also have demonstrated a lot of interest by emailing professors of programs i’m interesting in (mostly Blair faculty) I know at top 20 schools that doesn’t mean as much but it can’t hurt.
I also applied ED. 8 more days!!! Good Luck
It doesn’t matter to Vanderbilt (demonstrated interest I think) especially if applying ED1 which is basically demonstrated interest in and of itself. Vanderbilt will just have to gauge whether or not they want you from your EC’s, essays, and rec. letters. They won’t care as much for your scores (even the ED rounds have a really high 25%) but there are likely things that can end up helping you. If you’re interested in Blair (regardless of whether you applied to that unit or not), I’m guessing you’ll have a shot if your application indicates high potential in the arts (performing arts I suppose). The thing is, at least you are not applying to engineering. Most top engineering schools (or engineering schools associated with top schools) are really tough when it comes to the scores, tougher than any other unit that incoming students can apply to. I’m guessing admissions elsewhere would be a bit more holistic. Either way, honestly, your chances are perhaps as good as anyone else’s. Unless you are in the top 25% or well into the IQR, chances aren’t that enhanced. And even though your scores are bottom quartile, your GPA is good and maybe you have some AP/IB scores that can demonstrate ability to test as well as others. Remember that in college, you major in something and typically take very specific courses, so an AP test shows your ability to perform in the classroom and on a challenging final exam for certain subject areas. SAT is kind of like an income influenced IQ test. Many will do extremely well on it and still be challenged at a top school (and perhaps intensely so if they didn’t do any “college-level” work in HS).
