My aunt was a DG at one school but I want to go a different one, can I still have legacy count at the school I want to go to for DG?
A DG legacy is the daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or sister of a member. While you are not considered a legacy, your aunt can write a rec for you. Recs can be from members of any chapter, although at some of the most competitive recruitment schools it is best to have recs from alumnae of that school’s chapter.
Do be aware that chapters vary from school to school as well as over time, so DG may or may not be the best fit for you. Keep an open mind as you go through rush.
Since it’s your aunt, it appears DG does not consider you a legacy, but generally speaking national orgs consider you a legacy regardless of the chapter. So for example if we were talking about your mom instead of your aunt, then the answer to your question would be: yes, it counts.
During the rush process, mention your family’s ties to DG and explain how her positive experiences with DG makes you want to be a part of their sorority.
