If I take AP Euro and pass the AP exam, will I be excused from the class in college?

Hi there! I would like to know if AP Euro would give me the college credits I need to skip a history class in college? My school also offers AP Human Geography next year, but I heard that AP HuG would only give me elective credits. Would most colleges (like the UC’s) let me skip a general education history class if I pass the AP exam for Euro?

Also, which class would look better on college applications? I’m not planning on majoring in either subject, so would either one look better than the other?

Thanks!

It depends on the college, but usually not at Ivy-level schools. Not sure about the UCs.

EDIT: According to this page, UCB does not accept AP classes toward the Seven Course breadth requirement: http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requirement/7breadth.html

I suspect the other UCs have similar restrictions, but you will have to check the ones you are interested in.

AP Euro is definitely perceived as more rigorous than APHG, so I would take that.

Oh okay I got it. Thank you so much!

Every college has its own policy for AP credits. Collegeboard has a page https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/creditandplacement/search-credit-policies where you can check policies but the most detailed information will be on the universitys’ websites.
