if i want to major in business, do these classes sound good?

intro to econ
english 1A or 1B (I think i passed the writing test)
calc 53
some other class that satisfies the breadth course list that is fairly easy (what classes would u advise?)

also do ap credits count towards fulfilling breadth requirements?

hey. same future plans...

calso advisors said not to take econ 1 first semester...

you seem to be awesome at math (if your taking the math 53 course), maybe take 16a for a more carefree first semester??

or not take math at all since you'll pass out of the requirement with your AP score and take some cool courses that interest you.

calso advisors said to either take 1a/b or 16a/b if your not moving onto a field in mathematics or another major which requires math 53.

good luck either way!

okay thanks, yeah i guess taking math 53 wouldnt be the best thing since im not going into math. what classes are u taking?

math 16 a
r 44- western civilizations= fulfills one half of the r and c requirement
astro 10= fulfills a haas breadth
fresh seminar on time, love, and money in a technological society

no offense to calso advisers, but they think all incoming freshman are stupid or something; they highly underestimate their abilities

I'd recommend taking Econ 1, R1a or r1b, NOT math 53, but some other math course, and an easy class, maybe NS 10 for breadth?

what is NS 10?

Why would you not recommend taking
math 53 as a freshman?

because math 53 is not required for haas, you can take 16a, a much easier course.

take math 16a not math 53

I'm not pre-Business, but I am taking Math 53 in the fall. Has anyone taken Math 53? Is it do-able for an incomming freshman? I've heard Math at Cal is especially difficult.

i think it might be a bit much. Are you good at math???? If you are I would start at Math 1b

whats the difference between 1 and 16 and if i got a 5 on calc bc ap then which would be beneficial?

Math 1A,1B53,54 is filled with engineers, sciences, and math majors.

Math 16 is for those not in the above.

so for me wanting to go into business, 1B would be advisable?

16 is really basic calc, maybe an easier version of calc AB in high school, i would say 1B is equivalent to calc BC, with a few more concepts tacked on at the end.

if you wanted a grade booster, look no further than 16a.

If you want to learn more calculus, go ahead and take Math1B.

Unless it's required, there's no point in taking the harder math series, you'll just end up with a lower grade.

i'm doing pre-haas, AND i'm taking Math 53 + chem 3a

well, that's because I'm in CoE - BioE as well... haha

Hm I think you will probably drop one of those majors. Seriously, it's practically impossible to be Haas, CoE, and BioE as well. Only one person I know --third person--is a triple. Sigh, freshman.

But yeah, if u got a 5 on the BC, take Math 1B for good foundation. Then again, Math 1b, some say, is more difficult than 53. Although 53 is more complicated, math 1b has the highest flunk-out rate.

Math 53 is just an extension of Math 1B.

Math 53 feels easier since it's what you've been doing for an entire semester, just iterated.

It's a double major - Bioengineering (which is in the college of engineering) and Business.

I know several people who are in Haas and CoE, (EECS + business even), and i know it will be difficult and time consuming, but I still have about a year or so to decide whether or not I really want to do it. I have even considered staying a 5th year (applying to Haas junior year) if it proves to be easier on my workload
