If I wanted to take Advanced Unix Programming (1 credit course) that starts week 5,

and I already have 21 credits because I am taking the 1 credit course Introduction to C that ends on week 4, how will I add the Unix course? I am pretty sure student center will block me from adding more than 21 credits. Do I need to go talk to somebody? I don't think the 22 credits will be too much because they will be spaced out. (How hard are the 1 credit CS courses anyway? Any exams or just projects?) I am mostly just worried about CS 2110 and CS 2800 but hopefully they won't be too bad.

By the way, does anyone know why CS 2110 doesn't have a book listed as being requested by the professor? Will I really have to go through the whole class without a book? (I like to read the chapters in the book before an exam.)

Thanks.

If you are in Engineering, then you’re allowed to add up to 23 credits, the 24th will require you to petition to overload. I’m not sure about the proceedings for CAS. The one credit courses are pretty easy. Just ~3 projects and that’s it. Not too much time commitment and they’re S/U anyways. CS 2110 doesn’t have a textbook because Graeme Bailey is insane. He’ll basically talk about whatever strikes his fancy. Definitely not your typical professor, but he is very, very good.

The next class from CS2110 - CS3110 doesn’t have a book either. Just saying. But Bailey has really really detailed notes (even if it was hard to read) when I took it 2 years back and I’m pretty sure he recycles them so you’ll be fine.

CS211 hasn’t required a book in forever. I’m glad I ended up borrowing mine from a friend when I took it because it was absolutely worthless.
