trust me, you won't.

If thats really happens at MIT, I must say that I am quite disturbed, and my understanding of MIT as the school where people only study is shuttered. :<

wow, that party was lame

Yeah, I totally agree. Parties are only cool if people are getting intoxicated, making bad decisions, etc.

Um, newsflash, MIT is not a school where people do nothing but study.

We're like normal people, just smarter.

And just so you know, that "party button" is for real - two guys set it up in their dorm room over on East Campus.

oh my...

Mollie....if I, by some crazy act of a higher power, get into MIT next year...PLEASE let me use that for the Class of 2011 tshirts!

Yeah, I love that quote. I'm so using it (for fun, not class shirts)

"We're like normal people, just smarter"-MIT grad, '06

Exept, normal people are smart, it is the rest, the "abnormal" that are not.......:)

Not all of us are like normal people. ;)

But we certainly like to party, in our various ways!

I especially enjoy his car mod with the horns on the back...

Could someone share which parallel and floor of EC this is? Just curious. Good match for my son, we both thought.

2nd West

Best to check it out in person when he gets to campus though!

Aren't those two guys no longer roommates? Are there going to be two party dorms next year?!?

They won't be roommates - the few East Campus frosh who get doubled de-double after frosh year - but I know both of them personally, and that both of them love 2W, so I assume they're both staying there. Probably either one of them will take the button or the next resident(s) of the room will inherit it.

Everyone's got their own way to party, though. :)

Hahaha, do MIT students have time on there hands? Of course we do. Especially freshman year. It's pass/no record first semester for God's sake and unless you're going pre-Med no one will ever see your grades from that semester, parents aren't even allowed to (you can only tell them... yes you heard me right, the only proof they will ever have is what you tell them, my guidance counselor even refused when I wanted a copy, he just read off the scores to me). So as long as you pass all your classes which isn't that difficult you're golden, baby.

Now I definetly knew freshmen who worked all the time, but these were people taking the extra-number courses (8.012 instead of 8.01T for example) which are much harder. While you may feel like you should challenge yourself because you're at MIT I would suggest having some fun for the first semester because most likely it'll be the most fun the school will allow you to have all four years. Unless you think school is fun... then I'm sorry.

I ended up having some of my friends at state school telling me they thought I partied too much. BU kids come to MIT parties all the time and say that they are some of the best they go to. So yes, we have time on our hands to have some fun. And yes, MIT students know how to "get intoxicated and make bad decisions" and even more so when we're freshmen.

haha, my cousin goes to BU and when he told me he goes to MIT parties every weekend and they were "the best parties around" I was pleasantly surprised. Granted, when I tell my friends this, they don't believe one word of it....but they'll see

Just a side question:

"unless you're going pre-Med no one will ever see your grades from that semester"

Does that mean MIT will actually submit those grades to med schools?

They're going to have separate rooms next year, split up the gear, and compete. To quote Zack (from the interview in ZigZag): "next year is going to be somewhat of an arms race of automation systems."

I love this place.
