I’ve never been to the US and am not a citizen, but my impression of the strategy is that the president flies around in a jet, the vice-president ‘hides’ in the basement of his house and then the US army picks some random country to invade.

If I were China I would go for Western Canada first to make the beach landings easier. Once they can safely land, their vast superiority in numbers would tell. The US’s only recourse would be tactical nuclear strikes, which would probably lead to Chinese retaliation.

= several hundred million Chinese/American deaths; rise of 2nd British Empire

Yeah well that’s why this is just a theoretical question. It’s really insane how safe we are as Americans. Nobody is going to nuke us cause we got the most nukes. And it’s impossible to land on our soil because we have the best navy by such a large margin it’s disgusting.
Actually, our whole military pawns so hard. I’m not going to lie, I’ve thought about the ultimate question a bunch. Not that I want it to happen, just saying. If we wanted to I’m pretty sure we could take over the entire world minus Europe. (Assuming Europe doesn’t jump in to save the world.) Our navy easily would control the seas and we could nuke our top enemies China into oblivion. Our Air Force would face no threat. It’s actually comical when you think about it. Reading those stats which post military numbers. Our technology is like in another world compared to everyone else.

Now if just we stopped wasting these resources fighting for other people.

But it is nice to know we are essentially unstoppable.

^ lol I always think about if we would have gone on the offensive after WWII when the world was crippled. Think about it, japan was down, all of europe was in ruins, china was not yet the superpower it is today, russia had taken heavy losses, and we were the undeniable superpower by a HUGE margin- we were the only country with nukes too!

I’m not saying I would want the US to take over the world, but I always think about if china or iran or n. korea ends up screwing things up how nice it would have been if we had capitalized when we had the opportunity.

Well, your scenario is not realistic (duh!)
China does not have the ability to project naval and infantry forces to the United States. Our Navy and Air Force would obliterate them before they even got close to landing, if we knew of their hostile intent. It would be like shooting fish in a barrel (or ships in the middle of the ocean). Now, if they somehow managed to land a sizeable force on our mainland, we still have the USN, USAF, and US Army. The Navy cuts their supply lines, the AF bombs every enemy in sight, and the Army takes out the stragglers. Now, if they somehow negated our military, the US population owns about 300 million firearms and a 4 month supply of ammo (even without production). That’s one heck of an insurgency!

…but in the end, it would not happen, as China’s strategy is to compete economically rather than militarily. They want to be a regional military power, and global economic superpower.

I think retreating to the mountains is foolish. Why would we let them destroy buildings, take land, and kill citizens on the west coast?

No, if they did attack us there, we’d have to fight them then and there. The losses might seem bad, but it would be far worse if we backed up. At the same time, I would also launch an attack on China if they attacked, meaning China would have to play def and off as well. Their losses would be much higher, and might scare them into fleeing.

Pfft, countries don’t need to invade us when they can just draw us out into the desserts and employ the help of a world wide shadow organization.

If there were to be any direct attack on the US, it would be on an incredibly small scale, against civilians, with lots of chaos. Kind of like 9/11. Simply put, no country would attack any superpower. Unless those countries formed an alliance against us, and attacked as a cohesive group.

Therefore, our scenarios should be based on either terrorist attacks or massive allied invasions.

I realize this is hypothetical, but China would never directly attack the U.S. like that. They have too much invested in us, and vice versa.

But anyway, if they did attack us, we would just fight them as they landed. Retreating to the Rockies might seem like a good idea, but consider the logistics of trying to evacuate Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Sacramento. It’d be a mess.

While we were fighting off China, some of our NATO allies could launch an attack on China’s mainland. Hopefully.

But that would never happen, as many posters have said before me. We would annihilate their **** while they were crossing the Pacific.

Nah. China could have an army with a quarter billion people in it, and I doubt they’d have too much trouble arming it, even if they don’t have the US’s weaponry. Meanwhile, the US would lose its biggest creditor and struggle to raise the money needed to wage war.

As long as conservatives shut up and realize that you need a 90% tax rate to win a full-scale war we’d be OK on the money issue. See: World War II.

Yep. Our navy wouldn’t even allow them to land anywhere, even in Canada or Mexico, because we guard there too. Who do you guys think would become a coalition of countries that would challenge the U.S. if any were to exist?

in response to the wwii/america taking over the world scenario, we would not have been able to control that much more territory. the more an empire [U.S.A.] expands, the more likely it will eventually collapse [see:roman empire].
