If you are a fan of the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon

SPOILER:

I have a friend who had a stillborn daughter 28 years ago. Last night I was hoping she wasn’t watching; it would have put her through the ringer.

I also thought it was the best episode this season. Tough, not fun, but really well done.

So what does everyone think so far? The last 3 episodes have been pretty good, at least I haven’t fallen asleep like the others. I’m looking forward to the remaining and hope the season ends really well, as I’ve thought Season 2 hasn’t been that great overall. My favorite book, besides the first…is actually from the middle of Dragonfly (this one) to the middle of Voyager. So here we go!

I read that it has been renewed for 2 more seasons

I SOOOO agree!

I think only one episode had a lot of relationship stuff, which is my favorite, hence my comment in 581. The battle stuff is fine, well done, am enjoying it.

Also looking forward to seeing how they wrap this up. Will they ever go to adult Bri this season or save that for the opening of season 3? Will it end at Culloden (or her returning through the stones) or will it go into the 40’s more?

I guess we’ll see. The episode titles we still have left are

“Vengeance Is Mine”

Diana Gabaldon <-this is the one Diana wrote, should be interesting

“The Hail Mary”
Anne Kenney and Ira Steven Behr <- I tend to like Anne Kenney’s episodes

" Dragonfly in Amber"

Toni Graphia and Matthew B. Roberts <- really liked Toni’s last one (Faith)

I’m very happy they didn’t split the season into two halves with a big break in between this time.

Also a little SPOILER in the bit with Ron after each episode:

Culloden won’t happen on screen this season. He said Prestonpans was the last big battle scene of the season.

Hmmmm…glad I know that. Now I’m really interested in how they will wrap it up. I sure hope Lord John is better looking than the young one.

In the books I believe the actual battle of Culloden is a flashback of Jamie’s anyway…somewhere in book 3 or 4?

Bree and Roger as adults will be in this season. The last episode, I believe which will be one and a half hours. If you look at the opening of each episode where the theme song is playing I’m pretty sure that’s Bree and Roger we see in the distance by a car going towards a lake.

So, what did you all think of the finale?

It was by far the best episode of the season. I spoke/yelled/“oh no”'ed at my screen a few times. I love Roger, to me he’s perfect. Bri…well I didn’t like her much at first in the books either.

My main complaint: no long goodbye in the hut near the stones. That was SO moving in the book and the quickie in the grass didn’t cut it (after the hut, as in the books, fine). But a lot of the dialogue made it, so that helped. But IMO one of the strengths of the show was that their passion/love didn’t let up as they aged, and IMO season two has had little of that, though the Faith episode had some of the good emotional stuff.

Nitpick: Claire’s “I must go back” was unnecessary and cheesy, they should have stopped just before that line. But that’s minor.

But overall really really well done I felt. And I’ve not been a huge fan of this season at all. I may have to watch it a second time before i cancel my Starz Prime add-on for a few (hopefully not too many!) months.

(as an aside, as I was advised by you folks to have Voyager on hand when I finished DiA, I wish I could have had next season ready to go last night!)

I thought Roger was perfect, just as described in the book, and exactly as I imagined him8usa. Brianna, not so much. Her acting was sub par compared to the talent we have seen so far. And I guess I’m picky and expected her to be six feet tall and have her father’s blue eyes.

I can’t say I ever really cared for Brianna as a character in the novels, however. She was often annoying.

The rest of the episode was top notch, imo. I loved Claire’s hair and 60’s makeup. I was a tad shocked that they had Claire participate in Dougal’s killing, but I read an interview with Roger Moore where he explained the rationale.

I read a review which criticized that they showed nothing of Culloden battle. The reviewer said, “What, did they run out of money?” Umm, nooo, the battle was not featured in the book.

Yup. But we will hopefully see Jamie wake up on the battlefield in 3, as we did in the books. Talking about being dead and his nose

Best show of the lackluster season. I thought Roger and Bree’s acting was fine, but they look nothing like the stunning couple from the book. Rogers black hair and green eyes…looks like a pirate. Bree is supposed to be tall and strong…she’s shorter than Claire. I’m disappointed with their looks. Actually, I have to keep reminding myself that just as the series is an adaptation, so are the characters. But I really enjoyed the episode, especially Claire at Lallybroch and also seeing the Deed of Sisine.

Hmm, I thought Roger looked pretty authentic. Guess I wasn’t paying enough attention.

Yeah, Bree is supposed to be the spitting image of Jamie; so much was made of her height in the book. That was disappointing.

I loved Murtagh’s reaction to the news that Jamie killed Dougal! Basically a non-reaction. I’m going to miss his character!

If Bree is a history major instead of engineering, how will that impact her character going forward? Maybe she’s a handy history major?

I agree…I loved how she invented things. I wonder why the change.

I agree that Brianna in the books is often annoying. I also agree that the actress cast in the part doesn’t look like the 6 ft tall Viking redhead of the books. On the other hand, neither does Sam Heughan. This actress looks more like him.

I really dislike the way they seem to be making the character more conventionally feminine and non-threatening. The Roger is nice, but he too seems to be significantly tones down.

And while the overall late 60s look of Claire is good, she ought to have SOME facial lines. She’s at least 48, isn’t she?

I checked the Diana forum and the very knowledgeable folks there say:

I wonder if the whole time travel thing got her interested in How Things Work.
