If you are rejected for ED, can you apply again RD?

I haven't applied yet.

I have a friend who was rejected yesterday. She seems quite qualified; people less qualified from my school were accepted/deferred. I'm just wondering if she can submit her application again for RD. She claims she could, but I always thought rejected means rejected.

I’m quite sure that she can’t apply again for this year’s cycle of admissions.

You are correct. She’s done for this year. She can apply next year, or do a year somewhere else and apply as a transfer, but it’s MUCH harder to get in as a transfer.

I feel for your friend - it’s a tough situation to be in. But her trying to justify why “less qualified” applicants got in when she didn’t is just going to make her bitter, when she should be focusing on all the other amazing schools she can apply to. She cannot sit down with the applications for all those other students and read them objectively, therefore she has no way of knowing who is better qualified. I would encourage her to have a very short pity party, then wipe the slate clean and get engrossed in some great alternatives.
