If You Could Pick Only One...

College selection book...which would it be?

I am looking for the best bang for your buck college guide that will provide me with the most important and necessary information for my college process.

USNews online guide

Definitely Princeton Review's Best Colleges 2006 - I also like the one Yale Daily News puts out as an addendum

US News Best Colleges and Fiske Guide and Princeton Review Best ... Colleges

I realize that is 3, not 1. If I had to pick one it would be US News.

US News for rankings, Princeton Review for college info and comparisons (but you can check that out online for free, whereas USNews doesnt allow free online access to all the information)

Thompson-Petersons is the most objective, factual guide I've found. It just lays out the facts about enrollment, tuition, majors, financial aid, campus location, etc.

i used the princeton review. For those who care more about college-person fit than numerical rankings, i think this is the best. It discusses the basic numbers and stats for a college, then goes into detail with what students have to say about their experiences.

IMO, this is more important than a number provided by US news.

I think Fiske is pretty good.

Agree with Fiske. PR is good for the written content, but the ratings and rankings are out of whack. Usnews rankings are pretty accurate, but should not be taken as fact either.

I'd also have to go with the Fiske Guide (big green book) combined with the magazine version of the USNEWS Best Colleges 2006.

I use the Fiske book for general overview and the Students' Guide to Colleges for details about different people's experiences.
