If you could repeat high school, what would you do diffierently?

I really want to get into an Ivy League college and have good grades (GPA/many AP's/class rank) and am also in several extracurriculars, etc. So, my question is: If you could repeat high school to get into the college of your choice, what would you do differently? Taken other classes, studied harder (for school or SAT), joined more ECs, had more fun, or what? Thanks!

Participate in more ECs, Take harder classes, Study more for the SAT

I would do my homework for English and Soc sometimes, join more clubs earlier (that I enjoy, not for college), and take research much, much, much more seriously.

Do the EC's I think would be the most fun and not what would look best on an application.

But more importantly, take school way less seriously, have more fun, and enjoy myself.

I would definately have gone to a different high school where I could actually have been around some of my peers without feeling physically ill and therefore have participated in more ECs because, again I found it difficult to participate in activities with people who made me vomit in my mouth. =]

bunny27- what was the issue with all your classmates?

I wish I'd taken leadership opportunities more seriously, I was way too laid back sometimes. And I didn't push myself hard enough academically, but I don't think I regret that too much 'cause I probably would've gone mad/suicidal if I had haha. I should've taken at least one more advanced class though, or maybe another humanities class because I hated doing sciences.

P.S. I don't think this thread really belongs in this forum. :)

Be more social...don't procrastinate...don't make teachers hate you

Nothing. I dont want to regret anything

Yes, study more for the SAT. I couldn't take classes because of conflicts with my ECs and I didn't want to give those up. I guess I'll end up where I end up.

stopped daydreaming for at least 5 mins in each period and used those 5 mins to pay attention so i could have a transcript full of a's instead of b's

take the damn act earlier (maybe junior year instead of senior year) so i would have more time to raise my pitiful score

not get caught up in petty drama and just enjoy hs

Worked harder freshman + sophomore year.
Studied for the SAT from freshman year.

haha, i would NEVER repeat high school. it was hell the first time around.

if i had to do something, i would research on other competitive and prestigious boarding schools to transfer to from my old boarding school, rather than transferring back into public school. public school is THE WORST.

i don't know. people get so worked up about high school. there is so much more to life, and i am confident in saying that my high school experience is something i intend in leaving behind rather than using it to propel me through my future. that's just my opinion, but i view high school, notably senior year, as a royal waste of time.

My daughter was asked that question at one of ivy interviews. She said, "I would have extended myself to get to know more kids in my class. In a few months we'll all be leaving, and I feel I may have missed great opportunities getting to know some very interesting people."

oldfort, that was a damn good answer. There were several kids I went to school with for 13 years and I had never had a conversation with them once.

i would study

I'd never say this in an interview but:
Not start smoking.
Focus more on schoolwork than guys my sophomore year.
Taken AP English instead of Honors my Junior year (that honors teacher was horrible)
Not worked so much.
Kept my old friends.
Become really good friends with the nerdier people (I'm starting to hang with them more now, than my druggie friends)
Not ditch first and second period everyday. (haha luckily these were always my easy classes)
And... NOT PROCRASTINATE!!!

focus more on bball, less on school.

^^ hahaha, that's what i'm talking about. i was watching this thing with trey parker, and saying how everything is so pressured to do well in 7th grade, because if you don't, you won't get into the higher math class, and you're whole high school career is messed up! people need to take themselves less seriously, if you work hard in life you'll get to where you want to be. i'm not saying ignore high school completely, but trust me, you'll still get a respectable job if you got all Bs. there's nothing wrong with community college either and then transferring! haha, sorry, i just really hate high school.

-Not study for the SAT (that 40 point bounce was not worth 6 hours a week for 3 months).
-Joined more clubs
-Played Guitar more
-Not take French
-Get more sleep
