If you didn't get the email last night

My email was sent to my junk inbox…check there!

Checked, nothing still (mail or email). 2 girls in my school got an email last night. :</p>

Double post, lawl.

teachandmom - did you say TWO WEEKS? torture!

Collegemom1988…My D received that also. I phoned yesterday and it sounds like a “left handed compliment”. Evidently, the students are chosen based on their resumes, experiences, and ECs. Sounds like they identify everyone they want to accept, which is a higher than they can accept, and then identify those who would do well in a program such as this. I think it would be a great program for my D, but don’t know how I feel about her joining her class in January. I asked about housing too. They “may be able” to join the main campus in Jan, but that is space dependent. I would recommend calling them. I will post more info once they reply to my email. Hope this helps.

Hi other moms with students accepted to the Washington Mentorship Program. My D has also been accepted to WMP with Spring acceptance into main campus. I’m wondering if we should begin a new thread? Since I’m new and have never posted before, I’m looking to you for advice on this. We have mixed feelings about this “acceptance” in our home. My D was confused, especially since we thought that AU was a pretty safe bet with her SAT/ACT scores and GPA. Guess that proves once again that you never know. Also, I’m guessing that if our students selected either Political Science or SIS, these are probably the two most difficult schools to get into at AU and the competition seems FIERCE when looking at posts here. Impressive actually, so she would be in good company I guess. (I’m not sure why you would go to AU for things like biology, etc.) I’ve lived/worked in WDC and know the wonder and awe of the city, and the value of an internship. The program sounds quite good, interesting and perhaps worthwhile. BUT…in addition to talking to each other, I’d really like to hear from students who have done it. Anyone out there? Maybe this why we should begin a new thread?

@Actor123 - My 2 cents… Many students are in WMP and I’m sure you’re not alone. From what I know as a freshman here at AU, the students in WMP are very close-knit because all WMP students live on Tenley Campus (which is actually really nice to be honest, and has better food!). In no way do I think you should think that WMP is a setback to your student’s acceptance to AU because they aren’t behind in credits, classes and the program is only meant to help your student.

Last year, My D was offered WMP. The problem was that there is no financial aid to cover it, and at $25,000 for a semester, we couldn’t do that! She is very happy at her chosen U, but it took a little while to get over the disappointment. My question last year was, if she was a good enough candidate to be in for WMP and spring admittance, was that better or worse than waitlisted for fall admittance? We had been told there was no chance WMP students would be admitted for fall, yet waitlisted kids still had that chance…
Last year, my D was confused as well with this offer. If the program is so great, why aren’t applicants told about it as a possibility, and asked if they would like to be considered as a box to check on the application??? To be offered out of the blue, when the student applied for fall admission, but not be able to use financial aid because you are technically not a matriculated student yet, is tough to process!

I didn’t receive an email and I was surprisingly waitlisted.

same here, no e-mail, and waitlisted.

I should have been a shoe-in. 2110 on the sat and a 94GPA on 100 scale. This is absolutely ridiculous. It’s heartbreaking because I watched 25 other kids from my school get in when they have lower grades. Unless I get accepted to the ivies which is unlikely, I’ll be at my mediocre state university.
It’s great to know that my hard work has been appreciated.
