Ahhh! I haven’t heard from American yet! I’ve been getting emails from them all along, but I never got an email with a password that I could use to set up my AU portal thing to check the status of my application, so I don’t have an online account with the school. I haven’t gotten anything in the mail, yet even though so kids in my town have alreday heard.

I’m starting to freak out!!!

Is anyone else in this situation?

Languagegirl, a lot of people are in this situation.

I can’t tell you the thing you really want to know (i.e., What’s your AU decision?), but I can tell you that there’s no rhyme or reason to the way people are receiving their notifications from AU. On both coasts, some people have heard, and others haven’t. Some people who heard early were disappointed, and some people who are just hearing now are getting good news. Some applicants got an email notification, others didn’t. Whether you got an email doesn’t seem to correlate with getting a scholarship either. There’s just no way that I can discern to guess something before they tell you whatever it is they have to tell you. It’s positively baffling.

I can only tell you two things for sure: (1) if I were in your position, I’d be so tense that I wouldn’t be fit to live with, and (2) there is no way to get to your decision online.

Good luck!

i’m in the same boat. i’m not entirely sure why any school would choose to alienate prospective students like this. i was considering american to be one of my top 3 schools and i was really excited about it until this whole thing happened. now, even if i’m accepted, i feel like i won’t want to deal with whatever kind of bureaucracy came up with absolutely absurd process of notifying students. also, i’d like to point out that they lost their opportunity to get me really excited before any of my other top schools did. if i had received notification on the 12th when the majority of people got theirs, i would have heard from them before syracuse. rather, i just heard last friday from syracuse and was offered a very nice financial aid package. needless to say, american would have to offer me something truly outstanding for me to get past the annoyance they have put me through for the past couple weeks, especially since i now have a much higher ranked school offering me strong financial aid now.

mostly, i just can’t believe that any college would choose such an outrageous way of notifying students. some kids were called; some were emailed; some were mailed; some got all three; some got 2; some still haven’t even heard. if this is reflective of how AU runs registration and housing as well, then i’m not sure if i want to be a part of that. for a school which really stresses interest in the school as part of qualifications to be accepted, i would expect at least some level of personal respect in return.

sorry for the rant. haha.

I too am totally confused as to their notification procedure. It certainly doesn’t seem to be the same as any of the other four schools we’ve already heard from.

Is there an explanation somewhere of their process? Is this the way it was in previous years?

With each day of no word and each new post of acceptances, the heart does sink. So if there is an acceptance on it’s way, I agree, it will be bittersweet. Not a great way to welcome some and not others.

Viciousdirt, I completely agree with you! I got accepted to Syracuse this Friday too and to say the least they were way more organized than American. AU does not even use their online portal, what’s the use of having it? They pretty much just seem to use it for “chats”. The acceptance, when I do finally get it in what seems to be another eternity, will truly be bittersweet.

I haven’t heard either. Two of my friends who applied got in and it’s killing me not knowing whether I did or not. I’ve been checking my email obsessively and stalking the mailman…so don’t worry, you’re not the only one who hasn’t heard yet. :)

Same thing at my school, one person was called (and offered a free flight to visit the school), one emailed, and one got a letter in the mail. And then at least two other friends and I haven’t heard yet. Good to know we’re not the only ones, though.

I did really love American when I visited so here’s hoping :)

i was in the same boat and got my rejection letter today. crazy to me… 3.8 gpa and 1890 SATs, killer extracurriculars and essays. hopefully you have better luck!

Rejection letter arrived today. Good luck to everyone else!

Aww darn, my lettercame today and I go waitlisted. I will not be joining the waiting list though. Everything happens for a reason, in my eyes. Plus I haven’t even visited yet, it’s not my dream school or anything and I have gotten into other places. But it just sucks not getting accepted! And I wish I knew why I wasn’t, but that will forever be a mystery.

So, I celebrated my first waitlist letter by making a red velvet cake. :)

Good luck to everyone else who applied!

PS - sorry if there are any typos in my reply. I’m using my iPod and I’m not the best at typing on it. :p

I was in the same situation too. I heard back 2 days ago. Accepted.
It says in the email that the staff members are going to call on the 26th to talk to the accepted people. It means that you’ll have your decision by Friday the latest.
Wish you luck!

I’m still awaiting a decision as well. Several friends have already heard, but nothing for me so far. I am literally going insane, this tension is almost impossible to take.
You really would think that they might figure out a more sophisticated way to entice potential students.

Got my rejection letter over the weekend. No biggie, I have 6 others to choose from! Their loss, not mine!

I totally agree with everyone. Their way of notifying students is absolutely inefficient. I also have not heard from them and I would really like to know!

i FINALLY heard back from AU today, and i was waitlisted. i definitely will not be sitting on this waitlist since i have 36k waiting for me at syracuse and BU hasn’t come out with decisions yet. honestly though, screw AU for this horrible admissions game they’ve played. it’s total crap to stretch it out like this and to have such horrible disorganization. i’m particularly appalled by them sending out rejection letters with WMP acceptances in a large package and with all the appearances of an acceptance. it’s really cruel to do something like that particularly if it is a reach school for a kid and that kid is jumping for joy until they read the fine print. no matter how you feel about that WMP program, a rejection shouldn’t be packaged like an acceptance, nor should it include an explanation of how “prestigious” a rejected students camp with no financial aid is.

AU wasn’t one of my top schools, so this isn’t really a big deal to me. however, for many kids like me who didn’t hear back until quite a long time after the first batch, this was (or still is) a particularly nerve-wracking few weeks. AU needs to find a more efficient and humane way to do all of this because playing mind games with prospective students is just wrong.

twitch still waiting twitch well said viciousdirt twitch

But in all seriousness, this is getting a little ridiculous. Clearly, a return to their ALREADY FREAKING SET UP prospective student portal would be far more efficient. Also, they could easily save postage.
