If you only get in to CGS will you still go?

If you are rejected from the college you applied to but are accepted into the College of general studies would you still go to BU?

Honestly? It is not ideal for me to go to the College of General Studies. I don't want to learn the stuff within that college specifically.

Especially for the money you are paying, I think it would be better to go to your intended college, not CGS.

no i would not

Yeah, I would still go! If you didn't go then one can infer that you were never serious about Boston University to begin with.

JS

of course! That's the college I applied to lol, I hope I get in! :)

p.s. I wasn't expecting to get in the other colleges anyway! I'm surprised I even got into Northeastern..

I'm a CGS sophomore and whoever does get into CGS I urge you to seriously look into it. It's going to be far better for your class than it has been before. They are removing the natural science requirement freshman year meaning you get to take an elective first semester (3 CGS classes), rhetoric drops second semester (2 CGS classes), and then you have the 3 the second year...these are 3 more electives than I ever got to take.

It's also important to note that you are going to be taking core requirement classes no matter what school/college you enroll in...BU is a liberal arts school. I got into BU thinking I would be a Poli Sci major and now i'm in SMG for entrepreneurship/finance...after taking poli sci classes freshman year and never committing to a major. Much better than being stuck in CAS fulfilling liberal arts requirements. If you want any more information on CGS feel free to drop me a message.

I don't think so...

how common is it that you will be offered CGS? Do they offer it to everyone who isnt accepted or what?

yea i would still goo..

ThinkExpensive, is there any sort of stigma as a CGS student? For instance, do CAS students think "oh, you're just in CGS" or anything like that? Is it know as the "dumb" school? I just know at my school, there is a stigma of being in the lower math classes or not taking the AP history courses, so I was wondering if you've run into that sort of thing.

^ though people won’t openly admit it, i can feel a social stigma among many of my friends. granted i’m in the school of management and we have a rep as well, and we have a lot of group oriented projects. when we work with students who transfer in from CGS there is a sense of “oh… you’re from CGS?” lol.

well precocious you sure just made cgs sound great…thanks.

Yeah…but that isn’t a social stigma. You will find exactly zero people here who won’t speak to or hang out with a person just because he or she is in CGS. And even still, there are dumb people in SMG, dumb people in CAS, etc etc. I’ve met very smart and hard working people in CGS. There might be an initial “stigma” but you can prove it wrong pretty quickly.

I hate to admit it too, but there definitely is (undeserved) stigma against CGS. It’s simply because the test scores and GPA tend to be lower than the other schools; However, what people don’t realize is that many people (with high stats) apply directly to CGS.

Personally if I was not accepted in my school of choice at BU, I probably would have gone to a different university because IMO BU is too expensive to pay for the kind of curriculum CGS offers. (Being able to choose your own path is part of what makes college fun!) Then again, a lot of people really don’t know what they want to do and CGS is perfect for them. Also if you’re really set on BU, you’re only bound to love it more once you get here.

i dont understand why having lower stats makes me so stupid. people are so conceited and pompous.

ditto.

^ It’s not that people won’t hang out with you. Some people just talk crap about people in CGS, whether it’s warranted or not.
