If you send FAFSA/Profile, do they assume you are applying for FA?

For most of the schools DS is applying to, we do not expect to receive any FA and stated 'not applying for aid' on the common app. However, we would like to potentially get loans (probably unsubsidized), and at least one school requires FAFSA filing in order to qualify for Merit money. So we filed a FAFSA and Profile and just had them sent to all the schools. Are the schools that we checked 'not applying for aid' now going to assume that we are applying for aid? Or will they ignore the FAFSA/Profile since we did not check that box?

Bumping this because I have the exact same question–D is a NMF, and her counselor told me (erroneously) that all schools require FAFSA/CSS if you want to use NMF money. Do I need to tell schools that we aren’t applying for need-based aid? (It’s pretty obvious from the forms we don’t qualify).

If you don’t qualify for need based aid, the schools will NOT award you need based aid.

If you sent in the forms, then yes, the schools will think you are applying for aid. But if you don’t qualify…you won’t get it. If you DO qualify, wouldn’t you be delighted to receive it?

Most schools are need blind for admissions meaning that the schools will not look at your need when determining your admission to the school.
