What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

Langston Hughes

So explode like me ... but in a proactive way... we can get in somewhere!

I really like this poem... have any of you read "The People's History of the US?" That's the main poem Howard Zinn starts off with. Great representation of the unfulfilled and sullied dreams of the oppressed masses. So you're commiserating with the best.

I read that for AP US History and I thought it was a great portrayal of the history of the United States and its people.

I remember that poem from "A Raisin In the Sun"

Yes, I remember it from both... I am big fan of Zinn myself... he used the poem very well in that chapter is I recall
