If your HS GPA stinks...

and you are @ a local CC for two year and have outstanding ACT/SAT I/II scores, good LOR's, good essay, etc...

Would you stand a chance transferring to the top schools (ivies included)?

Of course.

By stinks, I mean a HS GPA of 2.0

your HS records are totally gone when applying as a transfer

^^^Not as a sophomore transfer, and not always as a jr transfer.

NOt totally gone but they matter significantly less

If u have a good reason why they stink then they wont matter that much

Yes, but at top colleges they will still take a hard look at your high school record, especially if you’re not transferring from a strong college. Very strong SATs help a lot when transferring from a CC, gives them confidence you can handle the work.

They definitely aren’t.

Some top universities will not look at your HS record (SAT’s and GPA) when you’ve reached some sort of unit mark. But others such as the Ivies will still look at HS performance, even though you might have an outstanding breakthrough at your CC. The Ivies will not primarily base the transfer admission on HS performance but it will still play a vital part for admissions review.
