I’m taking Chinese right now and tbh, I’ll probably end up getting a 4 on the ap exam. Does it drastically hurt my chances during admissions if they look at my ethnicity and see that I got a 4 even though I’m a native speaker? I have an A in the class but I’m afraid this 4 will invalidate that A.
First off, don’t worry about things that will not happen. You might actually get a 5. But if you get a 4 (which is still a good score), know that AP exams carry little to no weight in the admissions process. If you got a 1 or a 2 with your A, there might be some question about grade inflation, but not with a 4.
How do the schools know you’re a native speaker? You think all people with an asian last name have Mandarin encoded on their DNA?
Good point hahaha, thanks for relieving some of my stress
@GMTplus7 The answer sheet asks you if you have either lived in a country where the foreign language is spoken there primarily for more than a month or whether or not you regularly hear it or speak it at home (But I still don’t think that entirely fits the definition of a native speaker because I don’t feel like I’m fluent in Chinese, only my parents talk to me in Chinese and I talk in English and I only learned Chinese through a Chinese class).
