My daughter was accepted to the Information Systems major at CMU and, after looking over the choices, we're depositing tonight. Here's the thing...we did not have a chance to visit any of the Accepted Student events in April. The last time we saw the school was Feb 2009. We'll probably have a chance to go to CMU in mid-May but will have already committed. Any tips on what we should be doing now so my daughter's not at a disadvantage?

I was in a very similar situation to your daughter last year, and it worked out fine I’m not really sure how it would put you or her at a disadvantage, other than not getting the opportunity to be wooed by the admissions office, though I suppose it’s always nice to see the school again. Just make sure she gets all her forms in on time, does the placement tests, etc., and there should be no problems! Also, if you just want to visit CMU again, the May visit is totally understandable, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary or anything.

Keep in mind, Friday is the last day of classes and then students enter stress-mode for a week and half of final exams. So you’ll catch a different vibe than during a normal part of the semester. Don’t want to get the wrong impression - people will be holed up at Club Hunt (the library).

If she’s already depositing-- may not need the reaffirmation visit.
Congrats!

Nope.
She gets to start on a clean tablet come August.
Many kids attended accepted weekend and get hooked up to other kids without really knowing why other than they attended this weekend.

We live on the left bank and time constraints limited options. DS also missed most of Orientation week. He survived and found things out in greater detail than when things were handed to him. When he got to school, his advisor was on Sabbatical.

YMMV.

Congratulations.

wheeze, catch breath, breathing hard.
