If there were 1.4 million testtakers (according to the official packet for the PSAT), wouldn't 1% be about 14000 testers?

and if there were about 16000 semifinalists... would that mean you have a high chance of qualifying for semifinalist (if you were in the 1%)?

I took the PSAT in California.

what was your score?

um ... there is no %. tell us ur score and we'll be able to say you 'll probably get in or not.

It really depends on the state. From some, everyone in the top 1% will be a semi-finalist. For others, less than 50% of students in the top 1% may be semi-finalists. I'm willing to guess that if you have a 220+ in California, you have a good chance of becoming a semi-finalist. If it is under 215, your chances are not too good. In between 215 and 220, it's a crap shoot. The cutoff for CA was 217 last year.

lol yah but ify ou're in the top 1% and they take the top .5 % then are your chances for making it 50%? no...because you're either in the top .5% or not...and you KNOW where you are so there's no point in giving out the percentages

What if I had a 216 in California?
