If You're Thinking About Applying to Yale...

Don't. I have enough competition from around the US, and I don't need any CCers taking my place. Thank you for your time.

Umm...thanks for considering all the deferred CCers who (1) really deserve this and (2) designated Yale as their first choice - you already got into your "first choice" school.

"Taking your place?" - wow...

trying to take this as a joke not having much luck

where did (s)he get in early?

Georgetown:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?p=192366#post192366

oh man! what a HORRIBLE school...

This is why I hate early action policies - (people - PLEASE dont yell at me for this) - you should apply to your FIRST choice school in an early decision policy. If it turns out you can't afford it, you can always get out of early decision. If an issue comes up where a relative is dying or something, you can still get out of it. I hate this early action crap

It's not as straightforward as you think. That would involve writing new essays, calling your teachers during christmas break, calling up your GCs. In short, it's too much stress.

I personally don't like EDs.

If Yale still had an Early Decision program, I still would've applied early. At any rate, however, I'm glad it has SCEA. I think there is a tendency to abuse early programs in general, but with ED, it is greater.

What do you mean it's not straightforward? How would it involve writing new essays, etc?

Is it true that the website plays the fight song if you get accepted?

Yup :). Too bad I found that out a few days after being accepted. It doesn't play in firefox, but it does in IE (I originally checked in firefox).

It does play the fight song, but when you have a screaming parent in the room with you, it's somewhat hard to hear. :)

Bulldogs, bulldogs, bow wow wow...

ivyboy05 - if you're accepted from your ED school, but the financial aid is not enough, then you will have to write new essay for any new school that you're applying to.

Don't say that you should already be prepared. I know many people who applied ED from my school and who got deferred, and none of them were prepared. They're spending their christmas break writing essays, asking for new recs.

Furthermore, ED is forcing students to make a choice about their life by September. And it's easy to be abused by a lot of students who just apply ED for strategic reasons. For example, recruited athletes, legacies etc.

lol.......i'm gonna close my eyes and turn up the volume, i guess

I actually don't know if it plays the very first time. Because, I turned up the volume and I couldn't hear it.

shoot.......well that bursted my bubble.

David - do you mean new essays for each school explaining why you turned down your ED school? Because if so, that's new to me, and I'm sorry.

However, I mean, many people didn't get into Yale EA and are still rushing to finish up other applications (.....me). If you apply early (action, decision, what have you), you should always be prepared for the case that you do not get in.

ED/EA is a strategic thing, yes. But if you're going to apply early to a school, shouldn't it be your first choice? Does anyone understand where i'm coming from?

In other cases though, I can totally understand why you'd want to compare financial packages - totally legit - but people shouldn't want to just see where they get in and pick the best from there, taking other people's spots.

I dont mean to be bi tchy, but that's just how i feel.

I understand where you're coming from, Teej. Oh and I think davidrune means that the new essays are for the other schools that you'd be applying to after you turn down the EA/ED decision, if you didn't write the essays already... I don't see why someone wouldn't have...

david - Mine played the first time. (I heard the first note, then my mom started screaming...)

ivyboy - In theory, yes, ED will only be used by people for whom that college is their first choice (as will EA); however, a number of people who care only about getting into an exclusive college will take advantage of the enormous advantage ED provides.

lol.....thats awesome....maybe they should play the funeral dirge if you dont get accepted!

awww...that would be cruel...
