If you've got the time...

If it wouldn't be too much of a hassle, would someone mind explaining how UNC's official Cost of Attendance plays out in real life? I get that tuition is pretty much concrete, but what exactly are the fees? And I know my room cost, but what all does board encompass? I'm just trying to figure out how to budget and where I'm supposed to be spending this money.

…board includes the electricity, phone, water, cable, internet, etc… and room is obviously the cost of the room… what else are u confused about?

Actually, I think “board” refers the cost of your food, and “room” probably includes all of the things listed by the previous poster. For an estimate of overall expenditures for the 2008-09 school year, go to [The Office of Scholarships & Student Aid at UNC-Chapel Hill](http://studentaid.unc.edu/studentaid/cost/08-09/ssa_ug_general.html)

Like I said, I know the costs, and I know what “room” means-I was wondering if any students or parents of students could contribute anything as far as UNC’s estimated cost vs what they really spent. And what things like fees are-are these automatic, no questions asked, fees that will be taken from aid money, or are they an estimation for money we are likely to spend?

oh my mistake, board is the food and room is everything else…

Tuition, Fees, Room and Board cost approximately $6,757 a semester for an in-state student, give or take. Books, even used will probably run you another $200 to $500 depending on what classes you have.

cool, thanks for the input.
anyone else?

My bill for last semester was $5400 (in state).

cool, thanks again for the help
