Hi, I’m filling out my SSA and a supplementary application for the IFLE program. I’ve read a lot about it but I was wondering if anyone here had been in it and what the experience was like. I’m really excited! Also what are they looking for in applicants? My ACT/SAT are 35/1580, and I’m second in a class of about 190. I’m oos and have been accepted into Hutton.
Oops, didn’t mean to post that yet. I’m interested in all of bio, biochem, and neuroscience as possible majors (will decide after a semester or two.) I’ve taken a lot of college level math and science courses but I haven’t done anything all that extraordinary in science. Am I competitive for it? Any experiences you’ve had with the program would be welcome! Thanks!!
DS1 was in the IFLE program which provided him with a research experience for six weeks in the summer before the freshman year. He continued the research in the following summer which was beneficial for his medical school application. A number of professors from all three those disciplines were involved. You will be invited for an interview and decide which laboratory to join. Your stats are high enough that you should be very competitive.
I was an IFLE student-my stats were 1450 SAT, 32 ACT and a 4.0 gpa. I highly recommend the IFLE program, especially the 6 weeks research section. I think you have a good chance to get in STARS and IFLE. Private messGe me if you want more info
Just for clarity on the thread, I got into STARS today and am waiting on hearing about IFLE!
How were you notified? I also applied but have not received an email yet. @orwellparasiempre
@STEM2017 I was notified both on my personal and IU emails
Thank you for the reply! Are you a Wells Scholar? I applied but was not selected. I was a direct admit, Hutton Honors, interested in Astronomy but also languages and global studies. ACT 33/1500 SAT. I’m out of state, IL, how about you? Have you made your decision? I am still waiting to hear on 4 other schools but I think it may ultimately come down to IU and UMich Ann Arbor (accepted). Going to be a tough decision to make and affordability will be a definite factor! @orwellparasiempre
I didn’t know the Wells Scholarship existed, so I didn’t apply. I’m Hutton Honors, direct admit, and got an $11,000 a year scholarship (still waiting to here about HH scholarship) from Ohio, 35 ACT, 1580 SAT NM Semifinalist, 2/185 in my class (I’m from a college town in Appalachia so it’s competitive at the top but not at the bottom, I guess). I’m still deciding between IU, Ohio State (I’m from Ohio), and UNC Chapel Hill (where it seems like I might not be in the honors college - I probably but not definitely would have heard already, and it’s really disappointing to me; I really love UNC, but oh, well, I guess it would have been too expensive anyway). I’m not really sure what I want to study - I wrote bio on the app but I might end up in anything, really.
Good luck on your college decision
@STEM2021 Did you receive an email that you were not selected, or do only those selected for interviews for STARS get an email and you are assuming you were not selected because of silence? Thanks!
Correct, I’m assuming that since I have not been notified I was not selected. But who knows! I thought I was out of the running for a scholarship at another university as notifications had gone out and then I checked my email and see that I got it after all. I’m learning to remain hopeful through this process until I have all my options on the table which will be at the end of March and maybe even into April. @sursumcorda
I applied for IFLE/STARS and the application period is still open until March 10th.
Thank you for that update! @prep4col
Has anyone recieved an offer? According to the website- it will be in March
No I have not. @prep4col
