At my school, I first had to see a transfer center counselor who confirmed that the courses I took fulfilled IGETC. She then signed off on it and filled out and gave me an additional form to take to the transcript office along with the transcript request form. Does your school have a dedicated transfer center? Sounds like it might not...but if it does, have you spoken to someone there?

I still think you should also call either the counselors at the TRSP (at Cal) or the transfer advocate listed on the UC page. Maybe not to advocate for you at Cal, but to advocate for you at your CC.

The lady I talked to is the one who does the IGETC certification. It was her name that was on my transcript that was sent to Berkeley. Obviously if I can't get anywhere with her I will try to go higher, but I'm not sure if that will do any good, because she seems to be the IGETC authority at my school.

yea i sent an email to that person who signs my transcript and she wont be back till tuesday

Catalog rights are not necessarily printed anywhere (maybe it is actually in the catalog themselves I never looked) but I know about it because this issue came up on several occasions while I was a member of my CCs student government. Catalog rights is really a contract between you and the school and neither you or the school is allowed to violate those rights. So if your class is suppose to be transferable then that catalog of that semester then it should be fine to satisfy your IGETC. You really need to go above her immediately even if the person is not the primary authority on IGETC certification she has a boss so go to him or her with your issue.

thatgirltoo: My school does have a transfer center, but all they do is give advice. I had assumed that in order to get IGETC certified I would have to fill out a form or something, so I went to the transfer center early in the year to ask what I needed to do to ensure I was IGETC certified. The lady there told me that there is no form or anything like that, all I do is check a box on the transcript request form and they will send IGETC certification along with my transcript. So that's what I did.

The way my school is setup, you aren't supposed to be able to talk directly to any of the people who can actually do anything. The only reason why I got to talk to the IGETC lady who did my transcript is because she happened to step into the transcript office real quick while I was there talking to the clerks who work there. Employees like her don't normally work in the areas that are publically accessible, and the only way you can deal with them is through a middleman.

When I submitted the form to have my transcripts sent, I insisted that I needed some way to confirm that everything worked and that my transcripts were sent, because I have had problems with the transcript office in the past and because there was a guy in front of me in line who's transcript had been lost by them. But the lady who worked there told me there was no way I could talk to anyone who would know whether or not my transcript was actually sent out when it was supposed to. She said all I could do was keep checking with Berkeley and if they never received it I would have to go through the process again and hope it worked the second time.

Thedude: Thanks, I'll see if anything like that is mentioned in my college's catalog, and I'll try and use it if it doesn't look like things are going to work out. Logically it seems like everything should work out, but then I remember who it is I'm dealing with.

Screw what you are supposed to, or not supposed to do. Look in your school's staff directory for a person with a relevant job title (like Evaluator or Articulation Officer) and take it from there. AVC - Faculty Directory

What I meant when I said you aren't supposed to be able to talk to anyone who has power, is that they don't work in places that are publically accessible and nobody will tell you where they are. Some of them have phone numbers in the public directory, however, I already searched that for the transcripts people and they are conveniently not on it.

i think a huge part of your problem is how long you waited to get your courses evaluated for igetc.... weren't you having a counselor evaluate your schedule right along to guarantee this wouldnt happen? yikes!

The lady who told you that bit of info is wrong.

As long as you completed the course at a time where it was an acceptable course to satisfy a portion of the IGETC, you're fine. I know this first hand, as I had to make a stink about it when I was obtaining my transcripts as well.

Wow thanks for finding that. My school is violating a number of those policies.

The form they have on that site doesn't limit classes based on what was acceptable in a particular year, instead it has a space for the person to fill in whatever class the student took in order to satisfy the requirement. It says that the colleges can make up their own forms as long as they contain everything on that form. The forms my college uses do not have any room for filling in another class, all you can do is circle one of the classes that happens to be on the form.

hey can any of you help me out here? i dont know why igetc certification does not show on my transcript. i believe i have completed all the required courses.

Adamantine: I don't see any problems with your courses, except on Assist.org your two science classes have plus signs next to them meaning "Transfer credit is limited by either UC or CSU or both. Please consult with a counselor." I don't know if that means anything though, because one of my classes had that and yet it transfers everywhere.

@AdmantineX
did you remember to request that they certify your transcript?
it's not an automatic process according to the information available on Transcripts - Pasadena City College

Transfer with CSU GE or IGETC certification

Those students who plan to transfer to a California public university and have completed a specific transfer curriculum should indicate such on the Transcript Request form. If you completed the General Education pattern for the California State University (CSU) or the IGETC pattern for the University of California or CSU, please request a certification of those requirements with your Transcript Request. This certification is also available with the online transcript request above.

yea i asked them to do it and when i got an email from my counselor saying that she didnt get it i just ordered another one assuming that it was just a careless mistake. however, i realize that it could be worse than that.

anyway, just now i saw that my online transcript for some reason does not recognize my completion of IGETC/ CSU GE. when i saw my friend's online transcript, whenever she completes an area of CSU GE, it would recognize the completion and also the date it was completed. for example, when area A of csu ge is completed, then it would say so on the transcript. However, for some reason, mine does not. I saw this inconsistency before but didnt think that it was going to be a problem. So now, even after ive fulfilled the IGETC and some areas of CSU GE my transcript ignores it and does not recognize it....

Wow, I feel thankful for my CCC, even though I had some confusion regarding IGETC too.

I personally think you have a great case here, I cannot find anything that says "courses approved for IGETC after a student has first matriculated at a CA community college cannot be used for IGETC certification." I can understand the 1991/1992 thing, where if a student takes a class prior to 1992 that was approved, but after 1992 it is no longer approved, they have to retake the equivalent or other approved class, but that doesn't apply to your situation.

That lady is flat out wrong and it's pretty much an outrage that she can make mistakes that can ultimately screw so many people.

If I've found one thing with everyone I've dealt with at Berkeley it is that they are sane, normal, reasonable, and have common sense (I'm talking about actually on campus...off campus maybe not so much lol). I wouldn't lose sleep over this if I were you. You had an agreement to complete IGETC. You completed IGETC regardless of what some uneducated tard says.

Once you get everything sorted out and good to go, make sure you let it be known to the proper authorities at your school what this person did. Good luck
