IGETC Problem - Berkeley Possibly Rescinding Admission

yea i called the evaluator and she had no idea what happened so im fine and im certified.

Well, I explained my situation to someone I know at my college who is in a relatively high position (although not at all related to transcripts or anything like that). He researched all the rules and looked at my record and said that I definitely do qualify for full IGETC certification. He said he went over to the transcripts office and chewed them out for screwing me over, and they're supposed to be giving me a call soon to make sure they do whatever they need to in order to fix this. So hopefully everything is going to work out.

AdamantineX well it just says that those courses wont be counted as credit if we take higher level courses of each subject.

Could you expand on this for me? I never understood what the +'s really mean. I'm planning on taking a bunch of math classes. Does this mean that once I take Calculus 3 my Calculus 1 and 2 classes won't be counted for unit credit on IGETC?

I think I figured out what Adamantine is talking about.

Example: At my school they have a US history class that covers all of US history in 1 semester, and they have 2 seperate classes that each cover only half of US history in 1 semester. So you can't get credit for taking the general class after taking one of the specific classes, because you would already have learned a lot of the information that it covers. But you can go from taking the general class to taking the specific classes, because they will go into more detail that the previous class didn't cover.

Physics 1D>1C>1B>1A>10

so your physics 10 credit wont be counted if you take it after 1A/1B/1C/1D
for your calculus example, your calculus 1 and 2 are still counted for credit because you take it BEFORE calculus 3

Thanks for the responses, something to consider when you're taking your classes. Probably won't be a problem but it's good to know.

AdamantineX, I'm a student worker in the President's office at my cc and from my experience I've learned something that probably applies to your situation.

People take you way more seriously if you come and talk to someone in person compared to on the phone. I almost guarantee you, if you go to your cc with a couple of hours to spare, that you will get your IGETC problem taken care of.

Now you might have to go to more than one building to get this done but it'll get taken care of.

^^ you make such a good point cooldude. With the ease of e-mail, so many people rely on it as their sole method of communicating with admin types. However, its risky to rely on email. It's a lot harder to blow somebody off when they are staring you in the face, than when its just some random email sitting in your inbox.

yea i dont feel at ease too when talking on the phone or communicating through e-mail. seriously, even right now, i feel still somewhat restless because i do not have the assurance that everything will be okay. im not sure whether the igetc will be acceptable to uc berkeley. anyway, i would have gone to pcc but i couldnt because im at berkeley right now.

Adamantine: I was able to get my problem straightened out today. The lady who screwed me over must have gotten chewed out pretty badly because when I met with her today she was amazingly cooperative. But what I did was go to the post office and buy a flat-rate express mail (overnight) envelope and give it to her, and she put the transcript in there and dropped it off at the mail room. Otherwise they were just going to send it through regular mail which probably would not have arrived in time. If you know anyone who lives near your college who might be able to do the same for you I would look into it.

congrats on getting fixed I can not believe the stress you were under.

I'm sorta in the same boat. I got an e-mail from my admissions officer saying that my IGETC certifier didn't use my 3 years of high school Spanish to waive the language requirement, so I've only got a "partial". Cal wants the official complete certification though, so I went to my high school to get the transcript sent to my community college. Unfortunately, the lady is on vacation, lol

oh shat. dude u should take care of it as soon as possible. if not , its gonna be a pain in the ass. you won't even get your financial aid just because of this.

Yeah, I submitted the requests to get it done in person at my cc and hs last week, so that it gets priority when she's back. I'll head over and check the status on it tomorrow.. should be on its way. If not, there'll be hell to pay, lol

That's the right idea. No time to be passive when there's only one thing left to do.

To get an IGETC, you needed to have filled out an IGETC FORM. Completing all your IGETC courses without the form(certification) doesn't do it for them. Talk to your school and ask for a form asap to see if you can do it.

huh? you don't fill out a form, you get a certifier to do it for you

but either way it's all good and done, the official completed cert (i've got a copy in hand) was sent out on the 24th, so Cal should have it by now

oh yeah... i met the certificate.. that you get.. so basically a paper document... glad to here that you got ita ll done =)

anyone know if IGETC can be finished by the summer(including) , the semester right before transferring???

No, you've gotta finish it by the end of the spring term (for fall semester)..

From my conditions of admission:
"You may not attend summer session 2008 for the purposes of completing a minimum of 60 UC-transferable semester units, IGETC, UC Reciprocity requirements or L&S Requirements."

thank you . that solves everything .
