I asked my school counselor if my three years of french in high school would satisfy the IGETC but he said, "French will satisfy Foreign Language graduation requirements from a university, but not IGETC, unless you took the Advanced Placement exam." I didn't take the AP exam for French. I always thought that it counted even if i didnt take the AP exam. Am I screwed?

Good question! I did calculus 1 in highschool, but since I never took the AP exam, it never counted towards my college credits. Maybe that’s the case with you as well. I would recommend that you email the UC and ask them. I had questions about IGETC for UCSD, I emailed them and they answered me no time.

Your counselor is wrong. As long as you’ve taken 2 or more years of the same language with a grade of C or better in high school, it satisfies the IGETC foreign language requirement. You don’t need to take the AP Spanish exam to have it count towards fulfilling the requirement.
