so i'm planning on applying to UCB for biochem/mcb, and i'll have all the prereqs done by the end of spring listed on assist in terms of major courses, however i don't think i've completed enough of the IGETC, i.e i'm missing a behavioral science and 3 arts/humanities, so my question is are they going to straight deny me because i don't have these non-major/non-technical courses??

I'm not even sure what counts an arts/humanities, here are the classes ive taken so far: english series, psych 101, polisci 101, calc series, gen chem 1, o chem 1, phys 1, bio 102(101 w/ lab)(spring 2012: bio series, o chem 2, phys 2). do the english classes count? please let me know, i can't find any info on my CC sites

Don’t your CC has a catalog that list all the IGETC courses? Or even worse, go to assist.org and choose your CC, then choose “IGETC for UC and CSU” button…

Obviously your application will be denied if you apply to L&S without either IGETC or 7-course breadth. Most students choose IGETC since courses that satisfy 7-course breadth are harder to found.

Courses articulating to UCB L&S 7-course breadth should not be that difficult to find, but IGETC may be more convenient for students applying to several UC and CSU schools / majors that accept IGETC (instead of having to try to cover differing sets of breadth requirement for each school / major).

English should count, psych and polisci should count for a social/ behavioral science…all in all IGETC is easier to satisfy than 7 breadth. When I applied I didn’t have like 3 of the breadths covered but since IGETC was complete so it didn’t matter. Since CC is lower division they expect you to have all of those basics done so you can do all upper div when you get here. As far as applying I think it’s one or the other; you have to do IGETC or 7 breadth before transferring.

Did you not take Gen Chem 2? Regardless to the breadth requirements, you’ll be rejected without that. Additionally, I’ve come across very few CCs that have a Bio series articulation with only 2 classes so are you missing any of those as well?

If you tell me your CC, I can help you more. My roommate applied as MCB and I know a few other people that did as well.
