What exactly is a 'legacy,' and also, how much does it improve your chances of attending a school?

Legacy means your parents (usually) or other members of your family are alumni of the prospective school. Usually matters most in top private school.

Legacy means mother or father only at most schools.

ok, my parents went to bucknell, both of them. on top of that, my mom's dad and my dad's mom went there as well...how does that help my chances for admission

How did they justify that one? That really pees me off. AARRRRGGG!

do cousins count as a legacy?

It would probably help your chances of admission if you have four relatives that attended Bucknell.

Even though cousins are "technically" a legacy, I don't think they formally count. On the applications for most schools, it only asks where your siblings and parents went to college.
