Ihum

hey guys. im about to send my forms in and I wanted to know what you were picking for your first choice IHUM. Im thinking about that Mortality class. it seems interesting

yea I'm gonna put Mortality as my first also and then journeys as second choice

I heard from a Stanford student at Admit Weekend that the Mortality class was awesome. Journeys I'm not so sure about, though -- we read The Dubliners in English class, and I don't want to deal with it AGAIN. Anyway, I really want to do SLE or Transformations (anyone else think that one looks like waaaay too much fun?), but Mortality and the Freedom/Equality/Difference ones look really cool too.

I still haven't received my Approaching Stanford mailing!

Me too! Well, we'll get it tomorrow, inuendo. Hopefully. The Epic Journeys class seems interesting. I wouldn't want to pick the mortality one because I don't want to depress myself.

yea, im afraid i'll want to commit suicide after that class

Who else is putting Journeys as thier first choice? I'm afraid it'll be too popular and I wont get it

Nana, LOL!!! Same here!

I'm picking Literature of Crisis, it looks fun. So many people are picking Visions of Mortality. Old World Encounters looks good. The Winter-Spring courses look a LOT more interesting. I won't be able to decide between Epic Journeys, that Literature class, and Islamic History. The Drama course looks cool too.

machine

visions

hope i get one of them

machine

machine

machine

as you can see, i have no clue what else to pick. I'm gonna be doing biomedical stuff, and the ihum catalog says the machine class deals with biotechnology, so that's a perfect ihum (for me)

i chose Boundaries of Being Human / HumNature as my 1st, simply because i've pondered and written about this kinda stuff for the past 2 years in high school, didn't want to stop in the middle of it. Machine is definitely appealing to me to, and if not BoundariesHum, then Machine for sure (2nd choice). Both of these have literature that I'm familiar with but I want to go deeper with them. The rest I'm really not too thrilled about taking.

I like the "Freedom, Equality..." one

heck yes for politics!

i have my list now...

machine

freedom

visions

old world (although i read that it was terrible last year)

Hopefully I'll at least get one of the top four, cuz i'm really NOT interested in taking any of the other courses!!

anyone heard good stuff about particular ihums or the faculty that teach them? im tryna choose and it's quite hard!

Am I crazy to sign up for SLE? (CS major...)

Hey guys - I'm so confused. Originally, I wanted to take Old World Encounters, and this girl I met said she liked it okay, but then I read on courseguide (is that what you read paulhw?) that it as awful last year. My second choice was Literature of Crisis, but I don't really want to take that... and maybe I should just do SLE then....ahhhh!

What is courseguide?

courseguide.stanford.edu

a website where students get to rate classes/professors. comes in VERY handy when trying to select courses.

my list:
1. transformations
2. mortality
3. machine
4. art of survival

is anyone thinking of doing transformations? they used to have an IHUM called themes and variations in 98-00 that was quite similar. it was taught by hinton, stephens, and greenleaf, the first two of which will be teaching transformations. it got pretty good reviews on courseguide, so i'm guessing it'll be a pretty interesting class... but i was just wondering if anyone else was interested.

mortality seems really interesting though!! it's a shame i couldn't go to AW-- seems i missed out on everything exciting. now i don't know ANYTHING about dorms. shame, shame.

does anyone know what the IHUM grading is like?

Cool, thanks dreamsicle. I hadn't heard of this site.
