i'll ask once more...please stop What are My Chances

CalCruzer- What are my Chances? does not "offend" me in the slightest. im just saying that it would be better for everyone if the tone of the forum changed. but thank you for your URL lesson, I never thought that I had a choice until you mentioned it.

nash- i am a rising senior myself, so i don't know yet if i will get in.

KG974- people are looking for "some sort of satisfaction" ... yes that is absolutely correct. but instead, they are getting slapped in the face and discouraged. you are correct in saying "theres nothing wrong with ppl seeking affirmation" ... but that is so rarely the case.

As for percentages, they are
a) more specific
b) can be expanded or reduced based on the applicant (reach, match, safety is far too general)
c) a positive percentage always shows that everyone has the possibility of getting in

mccloudy- "which 1) does not concern you, and 2) is solely the responsibilities of the individual posters"

when you respond to any cc post, most of the time the subject doesn't concern you. does that mean that you shouldn't talk about it?

I think my attempt at humor fell flat--but then that's why I'm here and not on the comedy circuit. I know you are just trying to get people to be more realistic--and actually I appreciate that.

I'm actually more concerned about people who try to censor TV and radio and political ads than anyone posting on this forum.

Dude, Oracle1, you started a thread about your chances at Yale in which specifically ask for a percentage. What's with the change of heart?

change of heart?

Percentages are what I am advocating on this forum. That thread was much more informative than most.

Like I have said, I am also addicted to What are My Chances? just want it to be better

You cant tell people to ban smoking just cause its bad for them.

and thats the TRUTH

(get it?)

I always thought percentages were ridiculous. All of us are completely unqualified to give simple answers such as whether a school is a reach, match or safety. And now we have to quantify that?

None of us are experts, so it's best to stay as vague as possible.

i don't want the chances forum to go anywhere either. i just want it to be different. i want posters to be nice there, just like they are at every other section of the website. you can be nice and honest at the same time.

and percentages can be vague as well ... if you are really unsure you can make the range as large as you want.

if by nice you mean giving everyone a 200% increase of chances, then hell no. oracle, your crusade is dying

Wait im sorry I dont understand. The title of this thread is please stop What are My Chances, yet you just said you dont want it to go anywhere.

yes, oracle is delirious, or simply mad. mad AND crazy.

wow

ttly- by please "stop"; i meant the way that Chances operates. stop being mean and start being nice.

mccloudy- "if by nice you mean giving everyone a 200% increase of chances, then hell no. oracle, your crusade is dying"

I didn't realize that you can have over a 100% chance of getting in.

come on... i think you understand what i am saying but don't want to believe it

for one student you may say

Princeon 5-10%
Tufts 15-30%
UCSD 50-80%

doesn't that sound better than
Princeton - don't apply, your stats aren't perfect, why only 300 hours of community service? if you feel like spending $65 go ahead, but probably wasting it

Tufts- this school is hard to get in also. your stats are slightly more in line with this school but you could easily get rejected

UCSD- i guess "match" at this mediocre school
